There are complaints that Lucas Moura got dropped having scored 3 goals but Lamela scores and assists against City and should be dropped?

I think Lamela should be played until he does not contribute or has a bad game. He was one of a very few players who was actually decent against city.

Moura and Lamela to start

posted on 20/8/19

Lets not forget that Son was playing like a drain in the later stages of last season and was shocking in the cl final.

I appreciate he blows hot and cold but I would stick him on the bench.

Eriksen should always be starting. If there's one way to shove a person out the door who was already looking it's to not play them.

If there's any hopes of keeping him we need to continue treating him as a first team player. Sitting him on the bench because he may or may not go would be the wrong thing to do.

Fair point but Im simply not a big fan. Think he loses possession too easily, not a great decision maker and makes it easy for defensive teams as you know what he's gonna do (so one footed). I actually prefer Lamela in away games where we might have have less of the ball as he presses very well and does win the ball back. Eriksen is a far better player and GLC has clearly been brought in to be the successor to both.... We waited long enough to get him, lets see what he can do.

My view of Lamela is based on 5 years of not much, a 6.5 performance & a strange goal Vs City aint changing that

I doubt Eriksen gives a shlt whether he plays or not.. He's said he wants to go, if not now, then next summer for free. The only thing that will convince him to stay is a massive pile of cash...... He's an employee NOT A FAN

Lamela has always been hindered by injuries. He's been very good in pre-season and has contributed against City with a great delivery and goal. You call it a strange goal but that's brilliant awareness and placement. He should be starting and getting the game time.

GLC to be transitioned with progressively more minutes and Eriksen as I've stated needs to be treated as he's always been. We should work under the assumption that he's our player until otherwise which is the case anyway.

Tough decisions for Pochettino but these are the 'good problems' managers like to have.

Totally agree.

I really don't get the Lamela hate from some of our fans.

That's just silly. Most footballers aren't fans of the club they play for and at £80k he is seriously underpaid against the market so has every right to be demanding more pay.

If he goes on a free next year then so be it. Would you rather have a quality player contributing over the season or sitting on the bench. Doesn't make sense when he's been clear about intentions but willing to stay and continue working hard if it doesn't come to fruition.

my main problem with Lamela just how many times he loses the ball

He is so 1 footed that he is predictable to defend against

Someone like Moura is:

- quick
- nimble
- can go on either foot (within reason)
- has a good shot on him

im one of Lamela's biggest fans but he doesnt offer pace which is needed in this league, also we are talking about him possibly competing with Eriksen or Lo Celso for a place, two better playmakers.

Exactly, yet Kane hasn't scored for ages and he still starts? A strong manager would bench Kane just to make him earn his place.

He scored two against Villa so i'm not sure where this is coming from - a few months too late.

Don't agree about treating him like we always have. Things have changed. He has rejected the clubs offer and said he wants to leave. Spurs have bought a replacement.... Time to move on. As much as you might want it to be, this is not the same Eriksen as 2 years ago.

Quick question re the Eriksen situation... anyone know what we are paying NDombele & GLC ?

Yes my mistake. I like Kane, but am sick of seeing the likes of Moura benched all the time.

He has also said he doesn't want to leave to just any old club and if nothing comes during the transfer window he's happy to stay at Spurs.

He just wants a change of scenery and new challenge. Literally makes no sense paying him to not play when he remains our best playmaker.

Depends if he's denying game time to his long term replacement and whether he played like he did for the bulk of last season when he appeared to lose interest. Giving what we have seen so far this year, he was far more effective off the bench in 20 mins Vs Villa than he was for 80mins vs City
