Been through this, West Ham and Arsenal both take attendance records on tickets sold, not who actually turns up which is ridiculous really and a joke.
Every team should report attendances in the same way, there should be a standard.

Err, hello? who's upset?
Just want to know what is the purpose to do it on ticket count, and not on count of people who've actually turned up?
It highlights the fact that many people buy these tickets and don't even bother turning up. Yet they get counted as having turned up?
Clubs shoud encourage those who come to games, not just those who buy the tickets and deprive genuine fans from getting to the stadium?
It is ridiculous. It should be the number of PEOPLE attending the game and West Ham fans should not be counted as people.

It’s a known fact that Arsenal and West Ham report on tickets sold, not bodies through the gate. This has been done to death. Arsenal have reported almost full houses when thousands of empty seats are visible on the TV. Spurs and most others report on bodies through the gate. No idea why some do it one way and some so it another. As someone who infuriatingly failed to get tickets for the next 3 home games when they went on sale to members this week and all sold out straight away, I can safely say Spurs aren’t having an issue filling the new stadium.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you know these people will turn up though if that is what Arsenal are basing their attendances on and there are empty seats?

Maybe not. It maybe due to marketing purposes, for looking attractive to potential rich buyers. They can show 99% attendance at each home games, they look like they are "raking" it ?
I am guessing - though..

Of course people will be upset because it allows yourselves, Arsenal and City to pretend you are bigger clubs than you are.
I've always said it should be enforced that each team has to give the actual number of people in the stadium but of course the Prem won't do this as they want the product to appear as popular as possible.
Its when the police publish the real figures that the fackers get caught out.
It’s because clubs have to report the attendance within a set time frame after the match. The vast majority go with the tickets sold as it’s easier for them to do it. That and ultimately, all the clubs and owners will care about is whether the ticket is sold or not, they don’t care if the person turns up or not as long as they get the money.
attendance
/əˈtɛnd(ə)ns/
noun
the number of people present at a particular place or event.
plural noun: attendances
I think Arsenal and West Ham are confusing ticket sales with actual attendance.
We'd have 300% attendance.
100% tickets sales, every game has been a sell out with 140k+ members unable to get tickets.
We win

Is your life that boring that you have to find something different to whinge about every day? Yesterday it was some nonsense about 'tactical fouling'. Now it is some drivel about attendances.
You are trying to make it out that the whole world is against poor spursy wurs, when the reality is that you get all the favours from referees/VAR and the media love you.
Find something else to do with your life, it really doesn't sound like you are enjoying it.

I bring up subjects that I find interesting and ask others for input, as quitea few people here have a very good understanding of the game and things relating to the game.
I seek other point of views on matters related to football.
You seem to be so upset about this subject. This wasn't an attempt at to pick on any team, just wanted to know why these two particular clubs from the premier league don't count attendances through the turnstiles?
Now, it feels like you're too defensive because this is a sore subject for you?

It is at West Ham as loads of tickets are free to locals anyway and they do a lot of discounting, 2 for 1 etc. and kids get in for a pound. Then they have the long distance seats where the view from the seat is more than half a mile from the centre spot and so on. West ham make very little on match days but they do not have to as the taxpayer pays for pretty much everything else like policing and so on. I understand they are thinking about putting up statues of their two main benefactors Boris Johnson and Seb Coe whose munificence on behalf of you and me paid for the stadium and its later conversion to an athletics / football stadium..
