The Rotherham game was immensely encouraging if for no other reason than the youngsters playing professional adults off the park. Seeing the young players get matches against adults is a much better indicators of their level than only seeing them against other youngsters.
As for Gomes, the reality is that at his age, there's a good chance he's done growth-wise. We've seen him do excellently in pre-season against, in particular; Leeds, Inter & Spurs. He also made a very good cameo against Cardiff in the last game of the season.
My own view is that he'll be fine despite his size, although ultimately we'll never know until he's given a chance. I hope he's on the bench at the weekend. There's a few players that we haven't seen anything of yet that I'd expect to accumulate much more time on the pitch and on the bench over the course of the season; Dalot, Fred, Tuanzebe, Gomes, Greenwood and maybe even Garner later in the season.
You literally went on to say he will be able to handle the physicality of playing Burnley, and you’ve based it off playing against Rotherham. If you can’t see why it’s a point of contention in your article then there’s not much more I can say.
As for saying he seems the most ready I really don’t know what you’ve based that on. But seemingly nobody at the club agrees with that seeing as it’s Greenwood that is the one that is set to feature most prominently out of the youngsters.
I was talking about throwing Lingard under the bus not Gomes. Gomes is clearly a more gifted footballer than Lingard, but Lingard is one of the senior members of the squad, one of the manager’s most trusted players and one of the most popular players in the dressing room.
Not sure what the rush is with Gomes... We have a tone of cup games this season, so he should get good game time.
For the EL I'd like to see us line up like so (unless we find ourselves in a desperate situation to qualify from our group):
Romero
Dalot Smalling Jones Young
Fred Matic
Gomes
Mata Greenwood James/Chong
Same for the EFL cup.
This should give the youngsters (and Fred) enough game time to show what the can do and force their way into the managers thinking... IMO

I can see why it is but you seem to be stripping my comments of their context at every opportunity. If you disagree that’s fine but I’ve clarified multiple times now how I’ve reached my conclusion.
I’m not stripping them out of context at all. I’m questioning the strength of the arguments. It’s not my fault they are weak.
To be fair, lingard is proper average and hasn't ever looked that good in the championship.
If anything you lot are overrating lingard when he was a league below.
The guy is a squad player, ala o Shea. Can fill a role in a top club but shouldn't ever be a starter for Manchester United.
