On the Palace game;

"It’s gonna be a tough game as all these games in the Premier League are, every single one they give you a different challenge and of course they’re a very well organised team, they’ve pace up front, good counter attacks, big on set pieces and we have to do all parts of the game, have to attack well, win the ball back when we lose it and we’ve got to be strong on set plays."

"I didn’t watch the game last year, we had a game ourselves with Molde but I heard they had a few counter attacks, Wilf (Zaha) was close to scoring, team spirit great, we’ve got loads of energy and passion, you can see the way we went about the game at Wolves our pressing was excellent, we gave them five mins in the second half that was it really apart from that... the engine looks so much better, and everyone is fit, when you’re fit you’re mentally strong as well."

On Lukakus comments;

"Lukaku? I’m not going to dive into that one, part of that interview was made when he was a Man United player, so I’d rather not."

Surprise at criticism over penalty takers;

"It’s not that I’ve left it to the players, we’ve nominated two and throughout the season you’ll have games where they are not playing and it’s good to know they’re there and trusted to take penalties.

It’s not like anarchy and they can do whatever they want, we have a few, last year we had Marcus, Jesse and Paul, it’s not left to them."

Bury situation;

"I missed a pen at Gigg Lane actually for the reserves! Bolton and Bury’s situations... it’s hard to keep up at the top if you don’t have the resources, as a local club, we want to see local players do well and we’ve recruited players from those clubs and want them to do well and if there’s anything we can help them with I’m sure we do that."

I actually like Solskaer's approach, he's basically happy for anyone who's not a starter to move on and he'll use youth if he needs to for a season.

Will be in a much better place to build from next summer even if it costs you a few points over the season.

I reckon OGS will sort united out over the next 2/3 years and the next manager will get the club in the best position since Fergie

posted on 23/8/19

The next manager will be on a hiding to nothing after Ole turns us around over the next decade picking up a few league titles and another CL win, the guy after the next guy will have less to love up to.

If he wants to further his career he must get away from Utd and hopefully that will happen for him because it’s such a same such a talented player has gone down the toilet since joining Utd,what a waste!

I hope so, it will take a few more transfer windows to ship out players he doesn't want and get the players he wants in. Hopefully in that time some of the younger players have developed.

It might also take another pre-season to get the fitness on playing style he wants instilled into the players.

The signs look promising so far and if it all goes according to plan I don't see why he wouldn't stay beyond that 2-3 year period.

That could all change with a rotten run of results though.

"but I can’t help but feel he’s leaving us short of attacking options."

He is useless, he doesn't want to be there and can only be a bad influence on the squad.

The only person who left us short is the man in charge of transfers.

im taking it your talking about Ed.

how has he left us short?

maybe Ole has his eye on someone who isnt attainable just yet... would you rather Ed went out and spent 50 million on a 1 season stop gap?

imagine the uproar.

Well we seemed to be after Eriksen and Dybala, likely at least a couple of other targets behind the scenes too.

He didn't deliver. Although I agree, I'd sooner play a young player for a season than sign the wrong player.

I think we’re a top defensive midfielder and right sides attacker away from being a very good side again

Don't worry guys. Llorente is coming in on a 2 year deal.

It would be a deal that would get laughed at but as a plan b he may not be the worst. Would never start him though.

He wasn’t even good as a plan B for Spurs. They ended up trying out their wingers/attacking midfielders up front instead (Son/Moura) and it worked out better.

I agree, but then we are 4 or 5 good squad players away from even considering a title challenge.

I expect that will tie in with Klopp and Pep moving on.

In both instances the club were not convinced that the players wanted to move to United/for the right reasons. After seeing how our recent transfer policy has failed, I am actually really happy that Ed didn't' 'deliver' either of them. It shows a change in our transfer policy that will serve us well in the long run.

Had Ed signed one or both of them and they had shown a lack of commitment, people would have been slating Ed for not learning from his mistakes. It looks to me like he has realised the he needs more input from the manager and a decision on those two potential targets was made collectively and for the correct reasons.

Yes, I agree.

But I also wonder why it took us until the final 10 days of the window to discover this.

Good point. Find it hard to see us or anyone else winning the title with pep around.

I think if City win the CL Pep will leave. If not, I don't see him giving much more than two seasons after this.

I doubt Klopp can keep motivated for much longer than that either to be honest. I know some Liverpool fans think he will do a Fergie but I just don't see it.
