Or a GoFund me that can be promoted by players within the game.

That could raise a fortune.

Always terrible to see a club struggling. Not looking hopeful for Bury though.

Why though? There was a bloke on talksport saying Raheem Sterling should pay for them because of his boot deal 😂

The owner has money, but he’s not acting in the clubs interest and even knocked back a sale. Not sure why anyone should step in to bail them out when it’s Steve Dale fecking them over.

The EFL should have the power to take back ownership from an owner who has proved to be not a 'fit and proper person'.

Because the supporters of Bury shouldn't lose their football club because of that very man.

He should be ousted.

That should be the Football League who step in though imo.

I agree Grated, there is supposedly a test of whether an individual is 'fit and proper' but surely this must be ongoing, not a one off review. Then others can help.

I don’t know the ins and outs as some will do. But really strange for him to refuse that offer

Big clubs have to take their responsibility for this mess.

The Premier League has grabbed as much market share as possible without giving a flying feck for the smaller clubs out there.

Don't disagree Winston. It is always going to be hard for small clubs who are close to PL clubs. The PL has in many respects sucked the life out of the third and fourth tier clubs who live in their shadow. I know many Salford fans didn't want to be a League club as Salford has a PL club if you want to watch League football.

People could raise their children to be proper fans and let them enjoy the proper match day experience. That's what football is all about. I am a big Man Utd fan and ever since my son was about 5 I have been taking him to watch United matches in the pub up here in Scotland. He gets to experience what being a proper fan is about. If only everyone could raise their kids to be proper fans like I have done then football would not be in such a mess.

Wasn't long ago Bruce Buck was passing around a begging bowl, asking clubs to donate 250k each to give to a multimillionaire who was leaving his job.
Fecking joke.😀

Their Chairman is a clown, unfortunately he ruined their chance of survival and only the big clubs can save them with a donation.

In what other business is this even a thing?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And therein lies the problem.

My view is that football clubs have a responsibility to the wider community.

If you see them as only a business then that is your prerogative of course.

The fact that they don't bail out other clubs doesn't negate my point.

And imo, the issue is that these clubs are struggling to be run profitably.

Yes, the owners are often bad, but the root causes of the club's issue clearly stem from their inability to make money and there's no question that the Premier League has been a partial cause of that.

No, sorry, that's not entirely correct.

The figures you're referencing are heavily influenced by some big clubs having come out of the PL in recent years.

Drill into the figures and you'll find dwindling attendances, most clubs falling well short of the numbers they need to be sustainable. And given that match day income is basically these clubs main source of revenue, that is a problem.

There are deeper issues to consider, such as:

Take wages, for example. The vast sums paid at the top level is having an effect and rightly or wrongly, clubs that want to be ambitious are being pulled into a cycle of risk where they're gambling investment on getting to the next level. That is bad management of course, but it's the rise in money at the top of the game that is pushing the cost to take those risk up and up.

There's also the target audience. Football is much more accessible for young adults through their phones than actually going to a game - cost wise. The Premier League's success in opening up channels for viewers has taken market share from the lower leagues. Champions League football is Tuesdays and Wednesdays - when the lower leagues often play.

It's a complex subject but to absolve the Premier League of responsibility is not correct in my opinion.

The popularity of the Football League continues to soar as attendances across the EFL have reached their highest levels for 60 years.

Over 18.3m fans have made their way to fixtures in England's second, third and fourth tiers during the 2018/19 season - the highest figure since 1959.

See above:

"The figures you're referencing are heavily influenced by some big clubs having come out of the PL in recent years."

And as I said, it's quite as simple as looking at raw numbers of attendees. You have to look at costs and alternative revenue streams as well.

Well, obviously I'm not talking about Leeds.

You don't seem to want to discuss the other points I've made?
