I think Martial has got real quality on the ball - he deals well with tight scenarios when he’s outnumbered, even with his back to goal. He’s also a very cool and accomplished finisher. I don’t think he was the problem today - Rashford and Lingard were worse, Lingard significantly so.
Martial at 9 is like a few of our players over the last few years: play him there in a stronger all-round team, not one that seems to be having to reinvent itself every few months, and he’d look a very good player.

Martial is a very good player imo by the way. Maybe not motivated enough at times, but even in that game today, his first touch and ability to take the ball away from opponents was top class. Sad to say that I agree completely. Martial received the ball and kept it, having to be fouled or at least outnumbered. Lingard tried to turn and the ball would spin away from - the technique just wasn’t there.
Is this the Martial that has two goals in three games? The Martial that got an assist today? The Martial that played a key role in winning the penalty? The Martial that should have had a penalty himself after a brilliant spin and touch? The Martial that should have had one of Palace’s defenders sent off after getting in behind?
He’s been very good at #9 despite being starved of regular quality service.
What is the point of this article today of all days?
This has feck all to do with Lingard. He was as hopless today as usual BTW. The fact we continue with him is evidence of our regression. Without a proven CF We are fecked.

It does have to do with Lingard though. As BerbaKing says, Martial has done well this season so far. He’s playing in a forward line that, based on the Wolves and Palace games, isn’t working well enough right now. Lingard and Rashford are more culpable than he is. Put him in a more creative and cohesive side at 9 and he’d be great.
