Manchester United to move for Maddison

As he slid one of those through-balls yesterday, I thought: “That’s what we don’t have...”

posted on 25/8/19

No chance we are getting him for anything less than 100m.
He looks a real good player, one of if not the best creator in the league. Something we are severely lacking and ten times the player bloody Lingard is.
However I’d rather go for someone a bit cheaper around Europe and if he carries on the way he is going spend the big money on Sancho on the right

If Maguire is £80m, surely Madisson is £100m+?

If Utd are interested I imagine it will be c£100m next summer. I’d also be surprised if we let him go in Jan unless Utd cane in with a daft offer £120m+.

As much as Maddison looks to be a real player, I am not sure we rely on him as such. Tielemans can play as a number 10 if we need to, and I feel that maddison is wasted as a wide striker.

Yes it’s disappointing but not terminal. If true it would be a shame that we don’t get a couple more seasons out of him before a big move.

He's an excellent player.

The tactics remain the same: If someone’s going to buy him, make them pay through the nose for him.

I expect, by the time the move matures, you’ll be saying something similar to the diatribe you came out with throughout the Maguire deal.

Which was one of, it can only help us. In reality they’re (we’re) both key players for you

How do you come to that figure Toor. Maguire is an established international and rated as the best English CB Maddison is a promising player with onr season PL under his belt.
Not that it matters imo because I doubt we'll be in for him except in the press.

We’re linked with a £100m move for Maddison, yet Gomes doesn’t even make our match day squad.

The mind boggles.

No thanks, we'll play Gomes.

Shinjury - Both have things they need to add to their game. Maddison, for me, can want too many touches. That’s not to say that his touch is poor at all, but more that sometimes the opportunity has gone. Meanwhile Maguire goes to sleep when the ball goes past the defensive line and sometimes doesn’t smell the danger well enough - both in evidence for Ayew’s goal yesterday. However, Maddison is young and in his second Premier League season. Maguire’s been here for a while. Maybe he will sort those issues out in a red shirt. If so, good for you. Or maybe he will not.

It’s also worth noting that Maguire only really established himself as an England international in the last 12 to 18 months. Maddison still has the opportunity to do that before next summer. Plus Maguire got in in a position where England don’t have many options, plus Maddison will always cost more because he’s an attacking player.

Together with the crazy state of the market, I can easily see a price tag of around £120m put on him with the expectation of not accepting anything south of 9 figures. If Man Utd don’t want to pay that then don’t.

I expect Gomes will come into the next match day squad and will definitely get minutes if not a starting place

I'm sure they won't pay that. Gomes will be given his chance before then. I think our targets next sumer will be Longstaff and Sancho, rightly or wrongly.
Also I think the Ayew goal came from him covering the injured Shaw, not because he switched off.

I totally agree DM against Wolves Madison took two or three touches and Vardy had to check his run. Yesterday was the way to play the ball to Vardy, whom by the way hit it first time!

Maybe we should of loaned Drinkwater back?

PS. On the Maguire subject, we are unbeaten without him as I write this...... Conceded 2 goals in three games, none at home by the way.

I’m sure by the time the Maddison move looks closer to completion he’ll be garbage according to you Blackstarr.

England's centre backs aren't great. Johnny Evans was an experienced international but you let him go, then a few years later paid £80m for his teammate.

I work it out based on a few things. Firstly he has a very high ceiling, performing excellently already at a young age. Secondly he's an attacking player and attacking players are usually more expensive. Thirdly, although difficult to say when players play in different positions, he's a better player.

I'd also say he's more important to Leicester's future than Maguire was.

I think you are right Busby...... It will be more like 200mil for the two!

Your scouting crew are worth their salt though......

Gray should be perfect for Rodgers system.

The fact that he isn’t even making the squad is just more evidence that he’s just never going to take that next step.

All the skills but zero footballing brain.

That's because Evans became poor for us, too nervous too many errors.

We have to seriously question our scouting team. Must make a good living, travelling places, seeing the world and enjoying games here and then - Coming up with absolutely nothing for us.

Every signing we seem to be interested in, once an arm and a leg.
