Good victory, but in the end, Australia and the Umpire gifted England the win. Clear LBW not given, a run out that my granny could have made, and a dropped catch. Also the win papers over the shocking batting in the first innings. It was a basically a 20/20 knock from Stokes that won the Test.

A 20/20 knock?

You didn’t watch it then, sandy?

If England go on and win the Ashes back, Stokes has to be a shoe in for SPOTY after yesterday and his world cup heroics also.

I was buzzing after England snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, albeit after a sloppy performance overall, but then Spurs went and ruined it in true Spursy style.

I watched bits of it mate, and it was definitely a 20/20 slog, reverse sweeps for six are not the norm in Test Match cricket. To be fair with 70 odd needed and only one wicket left it was always going to end as a 20/20 slog fest. Nothing to lose.

We me test cricket will always be the pinacle of the sport. A proper test between bat and ball.

We didn't need 70 odd when Stokes came to the crease though. He scored 2 runs off his first 60 balls faced.

20/20 knock!

😂😂😂😂

1 in a 500 chance that a team with the last man in and still 70 odd needed would win any game of cricket. Anybody know what the odds were with nine wickets down?

The cricket was amazing. What an innings by Ben Stokes

They were showing it in the pub at whl. I was buzzing when we got the winning runs.

Then Spurs go and let me down

Plum lbw not given. Absolute shocker from the Umpire. And Lyon missing a run out that happens 99 out of 100. Fortune favoured England big-time.

do you want England to win this series?

posted on 26/8/19

I wouldn't get to carried away, as usual the hype is way over the top, as it stands the Aussies still retain the ashes. England won one game of a five game test series, still have to win at least one more.

Talk about knighthoods for Stokes is ridiculous hyperbole.

Of course it did; it absolutely had to, because the pair of them were trying to achieve the near impossible.

That takes absolutely nothing away from Stokes’ performance, which demonstrated simply heroic nerve, determination, confidence, strength, sheer batting talent and technique, guile, discretion, patience and stamina.

It was a truly mind-blowing innings, and one that will rightly be remembered for decades.
