There's a lot to answer in this post by Morespur.
But one point......VAR does NOT make decisions. Nor does i t"miss things". Never!
It is a video replay.
It is a tool for the referee to consult.
Its the referee who make any decision.
I do wish poeple on here would get this straight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its made 2 big decisions for us against City.
Going against the linesman both times.
Maybe it needs to be kept for offsides but ditched for pens?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
NO. FGS for the tenth time... VAR does NOT make decisions. Referees make decisions.
VAR IS A TOOL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT DOES VAR STAND FOR TED
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Video Assistant Referee.... with the accent on ASSISTANT!
Any more questions?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So linesmen dont make decisions either?
The video assistant referee makes decision within the booth
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ask yourself.. why does the referee consult VAR?
If VAR "made the decision" why would the referee need to consult it?
Just ask from the pitch.
VAR is exactly the same kind of tool as Hawkeye in Tennis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
However you want to frame it VAR is pretty fackin useless for pens if it doesn't assist the ref to make the correct decision.
We got lucky with VAR on the Lamela pen against City but the handball incident was correctly dealt with.
I wouldnt be surprised if the benefit of doubt came down on our side in that game as it meant City could drop points, which at the same time strengthens their darlings Pool`s position in their fantasy title race.
They really are desperate for a Pool title win.

A referee can consult VAR and still come to an incorrect decision.
The video could still not give a clear view of the relevant action.
Or the referee could be biased.
Nothing in this life is perfect....but VAR is one hell of a lot better than nothing.

Ted I don't think you understand how it works at all.
The ref doesnt decide when the VAR Is allowed to check his decisions - they looked at it and decided there wasnt enough to overturn him.
The ref doesnt need to consult the VAR for it to be used

It's not my opinion it's a fact - gary Neville and and jamie carragher have publically said that when they went to stockley park to learn about VAR they were told by the referees there that they arent going to send the ref to look at the video replay, they are just going to choose whether or not to overrule him.
You clearly don't understand how the technology works.

===============
Spot on
That's the variation the FA is happy with of VAR rules. They decided that sending ref to look at a monitor could be a delay etc..taking away from the game.
It doesn't matter though. When Kane went down, you could tell Mike Dean would not give it. Possibly because Kane didn't ironically didn't do what Salah did for his pen which is raise his hands aloft and make it very obvious he was being pulled. Kane should have hit the ground and rolled a few times, - just watch Mo last year ffs
Learn from the great man!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Video Assistant Referee.... with the accent on ASSISTANT!
Any more questions?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So linesmen dont make decisions either?
The video assistant referee makes decision within the booth
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ask yourself.. why does the referee consult VAR?
If VAR "made the decision" why would the referee need to consult it?
Just ask from the pitch.
VAR is exactly the same kind of tool as Hawkeye in Tennis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the difference between consulting and asking from the pitch?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The match referee has the final decision.
He goes and looks at VAR for himself.
Similarly, linesmen can be over-ruled by the match referee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesn't look at the var himself though
They're actively trying to avoid doing that in the prem and instead just letting the VAR overrule the ref
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"They" being the FA?
Give a reference for your opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't tell you where the decision has originated from, but referees have told us that they're basically never going to send the ref to look at the screen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
well without a legitimate reference, your opinion is only what it is... your opinion.
And I very much doubt its truth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not my opinion it's a fact - gary Neville and and jamie carragher have publically said that when they went to stockley park to learn about VAR they were told by the referees there that they arent going to send the ref to look at the video replay, they are just going to choose whether or not to overrule him.
You clearly don't understand how the technology works.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What Neville and Carragher say is NOT official FA doctrine.
VAR is an assistant, just the same as the linesman.
The match referee is in charge and he has the final say. He can choose to go with what VAR sees, or he can see for himself.
VAR does NOT make the decision, the referee does.
To be fair it's worrying that Poch thought he might be the answer at all. Especially after the Villa game.
You clearly don't understand how the technology works.
*********************
There is no decision making AI in the VAR "technology".
It is simply a video.

But one point......VAR does NOT make decisions. Nor does i t"miss things". Never!

Its the referee who make any decision.
I do wish poeple on here would get this straight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its made 2 big decisions for us against City.
Going against the linesman both times.
Maybe it needs to be kept for offsides but ditched for pens?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
NO. FGS for the tenth time... VAR does NOT make decisions. Referees make decisions.

so you think they're lying about what premier league referees told them?
Just admit you were misinformed
Some very silly fans on here seem to think that VAR has some God-like AI technology that "makes decisions".
Nothing could be further from the truth.
VAR is a video of the match, pure and simple.
Just like you can see on your TV.
It is an Assistant to the referee.
There is someone who is looking at it.
He is an assistant to the match referee.
The match referee has final say, and all decisions are his.
Thats all I am going to say on this matter.
And the silly little buggggers who continue to believe otherwise will just have to go on with their misconceptions.

I do wish poeple on here would get this straight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its made 2 big decisions for us against City.
Going against the linesman both times.
Maybe it needs to be kept for offsides but ditched for pens?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
NO. FGS for the tenth time... VAR does NOT make decisions. Referees make decisions.
VAR IS A TOOL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT DOES VAR STAND FOR TED
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Video Assistant Referee.... with the accent on ASSISTANT!
Any more questions?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So linesmen dont make decisions either?
The video assistant referee makes decision within the booth
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ask yourself.. why does the referee consult VAR?
If VAR "made the decision" why would the referee need to consult it?
Just ask from the pitch.
VAR is exactly the same kind of tool as Hawkeye in Tennis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the difference between consulting and asking from the pitch?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The match referee has the final decision.
He goes and looks at VAR for himself.
Similarly, linesmen can be over-ruled by the match referee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesn't look at the var himself though
They're actively trying to avoid doing that in the prem and instead just letting the VAR overrule the ref
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"They" being the FA?
Give a reference for your opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't tell you where the decision has originated from, but referees have told us that they're basically never going to send the ref to look at the screen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
well without a legitimate reference, your opinion is only what it is... your opinion.
And I very much doubt its truth.

===============
Spot on
That's the variation the FA is happy with of VAR rules.

There is no decision making AI in the VAR "technology".
It is simply a video.
