lol sounds about right. He has had seasons for us though where hes been impeccable. But then has stretches of games where hes useless. Strange player
Luiz has actually been good for us, Anfield aside. Even in that game, he was good when he wasn't making errors.
Has he put the keeper or cbs under pressure with a bobbly pass for no reason yet?
Yeah he will be a solid signing I think in the long run.
Benitez had the right idea about how to use Luiz best.

Our CBs are always going to struggle if they continue playing without protection from midfield.
I still can't get over the structural inadequacies that led to Tottenham's first goal yesterday. Our CBs were constantly getting sucked into the gaping void directly in front of them, and it was only a matter of time before we went behind.
Luiz was at fault for the first goal too yesterday. Not a lot of people are mentioning that. The guy did a strange little thing where ran away from his position momentarily which allowed the Tottenham player to find the through ball.
Both cbs were at fault for first goal. Was school boy stuff

0:00 seconds
1) Sokratis gets tired of Xhaka losing every single aerial bout and bombs forward to help.
2.) The Spurs keeper then boots a ball into midfield which both men challenge and lose (yet again) after it is nodded on by a Spurs player well inside the Spurs half.
3.) The ball then falls to Son (who Luiz is still marking since as he's the last man) in the centre circle. Luiz then tracks his man, who subsequently makes a lateral run in order to open up room for teammates making a run into space.
4.) And what is Sokratis doing all this time despite being caught out about 9 yards into the opponent's half ? And with Spurs players rushing past him to get themselves into space? .........Casually jogging back with Xhaka, of course.
5.) Lamela makes an unchallenged run. So does Eriksen. Two of the slowest men on this planet.
6.) Yeoung Min Son then takes Luiz out of the game by passing to (a now free) Lamela.
7.) The only player to see all this happening is Maitland-Niles as usual, the youngest of our back 4, who makes his umpteenth run across the entire defense to put out other people's fires on the other side of the pitch.
A futile exercise, as he doesn't make it in time to stop a shot from Lamela, who's run he has tracked for about 40 yards. Tracked his run from the other side of the facking pitch.
8.) Sokratis is still casually jogging back, by the way. Still totally unaware of anyone making runs around him.
9.) Keeper parries the shot, as Eriksen ghosts past Sokratis (who naturally thinks that this is someone else's problem) and taps it in.
10.) And yes, Sokratis is still jogging back. Barely makes it into the fecking 18-yard box while all this is happening.
0:18 seconds.
And how would I rate our back 5 over those 18 seconds.?
Kolasinac - 0/10 - Totally AWOL. Not even on the same planet as all this was happening.
Luiz - 2/10 - Did just enough to mark Son and delay the through ball, but let down by his oblivious defensive partners.
Sokratis- 0/10 - The real villain of the piece.
Maitland-Niles - 4/10 - Had the piece of mind to realise what was happening, but couldn't do much. Rushed across to to put other people's fires out, and ended up leaving his own house burning.
Leno - 5/10 - Some balls just need to be punched/ parried away. He always tries to stop them dead.

Well .....he got this wrong. Bad position and when Sokratis done it he needed to win this challenge. Nothing happen if he did. Later Leno made the second mistake. Needs to save that ball. Easy shot, not strong. End of.

Hadn't really thought about it but Sokratis was the weak link in this play. I did see him jog back and fail to make a covering run when Leno spilled, and it infuriated me. I want to like Mustafi, I really do. But he is guaranteed to give up at least one clear scoring chance each game - essentially he's Xhaka at centre half. And the problem with both Mustafi and Xhaka is that neither of them appear to be learning from their repeat mistakes. If they were, Sokratis would be surplus to requirements.
