Pepe Has Horrendous Decision Making

Maybe. He’s got talent and physical attributes and I think he’ll have games where it all comes together and he destroys teams, then he’ll have games where he gets in great positions and sh*ts the bed. One of those kinda players. Quite a lot of money for one of those kinda players too. Oh well, he’ll be fun to watch.

So basically he is a left footed Iwobi?

I said this on arseblog when we got him.

I think football in general has regressed to be honest. Not that much talent around nowadays.

Too harsh. This is his third start with no pre-season? First time with Lacazette? The International break will help him learn his teammates runs. At the moment its all too individual and he is trying very hard to impress. Pepe's pace and dribbling skills are on par with Henry, if not better. I think he will settle and be a world class player for us.

On par with Henry. Have you lost your mind man?

Might just be nervousness, his numbers last year were fantastic.

Not at all. Just wait. I am talking about his skill. He doesn't have Henry's composure so I am not making that direct comparison. Its not easy settling, making the jump from France. Lacazette wasn't all that impressive in his first 6 months either, in fact neither was Pires. Henry and Bergkamp had experienced the big club pressure in Italy but again still took time. He will settle. I compare him to those players. Top class.

I am not ruling him out at all. But to compare him with Henry is insane. For one he does not have anywhere near Henry's searing pace. He's quick but not on that level. His dribbling is good I'll give you that.
He can become dangerous.
But he's no Henry.

Henry's best quality in my opinion was his ability to run with the ball on his toes like a ballerina so his acceleration was just second to none. I seem to remember he gave an interview where he said that was because he had problem feet as a toddler and his mum forced him to have ballet lessons so he would walk properly. There will never be anyone like him for what he did. But saying that, Henry was not a wc dribbler. In fact I preferred Pires to Henry in his dribbling skills. Pepe has that tricky quality that you don't often see at pace. We have broken our transfer record to buy him. There is a reason why all out scouts and technical staff think so highly of him. We are were lucky to get him. But you got to have patience.

I think at the moment he is trying too hard. Every time he has the ball he is trying to make something happen. Football is team game and I think as soon as he learns what his team mates want he will be far more effective. And conversely others will play him into space rather than him having to beat two men every time.

Gervinho was one of your favourite players of all time ?

really?

wouldnt the international break suggest the only teammates that he could work on their runs with were his international ones?

My concern is that like Ozil he is only left footed , experienced defenders will simply force him to his right. The chance he had when through against Liverpool was missed because he played it with his left foot when the angle was better for a right foot finish.

I thought about the Gervinho comparison as well. A bit harsh as it looks like it's just nervousness and not simply being a disgrace like Gerv was. Funnily enough he reminds me of Zaha at United.

Hopefully we can help him overcome it, otherwise we're taking a massive hit.

Has anyone noticed our descent back into the bad habit of simply passing the ball to the flashy new twinkle-toed wide player and then leaving him completely alone?

We did it with Sanchez, and we're currently doing the same with Pepe.

No support. No overlapping runs. No decoy runs. Just pass him the ball and then casually jog into the box and wait for him to dribble past 3 defenders and put a cross in.

Does my head right in.

We'll see more of the overlapping runs when Bellerin is back I reckon.

Can't believe what I read. The guy played only his second game. We are crying so long for a player like him. With his attributes: pacey, tricky, taking on defenders, not shy to shot from a distance and people making Gervinho comparisons. Annoying stuff.

Don't ever compare Pepe to Fivehead. Pepe may have made some poor decisions (and he has) but he is in a different league. It's still early days for him.

Fivehead was one of my most hated Arsenal players ever and I won't take seriously anything that lumps Pepe into thd same category.

Pepe withdraws.

I didn't see that coming.
