City and United fans sounded very surprised that both have left.
As ever, time will tell with development signings like this.
I think Frimpong may have the best chance going by the fact Lennon physically phoned him to get him to sign.
I think this is sensible by all parties. The young lads are obviously recognising that opportunities at these farm clubs are limited and have seen the success of some of their colleagues in heading out to the Bundesliga etc. They know they need games.
As for Celtic, they potentially reap the rewards. They just need to give them opportunities.
I just hope it doesn't stunt the development of Celtic's own youth players.
United fans saying O'Connor has been nominated for Academy player of the year last 2 seasons.
he's primarily a right back but wants to become a centre half.
Ivan, our defence at academy level is terrible, we let Morrison go who was the best in years
it's hard at that position for young players IMO especially with how the game is going, if you cant play out from the back you wont make it

I think young players are starting to realize that hanging around too long at these big wonderkid farm clubs is only gonna lead to their careers stagnating.
I think we've done a great job getting all these guys in, they won't all make it, some through lack of ability and some through lack of opportunities, but they are cheap high potential cover, and even if only one reaches their potential we will cover all the cost and then some when it comes time to move them on.
The list of young well thought of players we've picked up in the last year is impressive and bodes very well for the future, there's very little value to be found in the transfer markets nowadays, especially when clubs know you have money so it's the way forward for us.

I know of a young aspiring Celtic centre back in the academy set up.
tall, athletic and very comfortable on the ball. For a young man he has his head screwed on and I have high hopes for him.
Not going to name him on here for certain reasons.

Mate John Kennedy is 36
Could the large number of teenagers we've signed be an indication that we're confident a Colt team will be admitted to the lower leagues in the very near future?

I don't think so, I think the idea is they will replace some of the current first XI when they are moved on.

Another major plus has seen a clear strategy in youth investment with an eye on filling roles in a year or 2. Acting in advance as opposed to reacting to the loss of players. The signings of Connell (Brown), Afolabi (Edouard), Frimpong (Bauer) and O'Connor (Ajer) have been made with a view to replacing a potentially departing member of the squad. I can't remember a time we've actually done this.
