Since my first vote in the mid 1960s, I have never ever voted for any other political party, and will not be changing now.
—————-
I’ve never understood this mentality.
Politics isn’t like football. Your team is your team. But political stances can change a great deal and I don’t understand staunchly voting for a Party because it’s what you, or your family, have always done. Politics is a more fluid concept than that. Parties change, society changes. Labour for example has a stance presently that’s more left than the centrist position taken up by Blair in the 90’s. If Labour went down the road of outright communism would you still support them, just because it’s Labour?
I was first old enough to vote in 2001, and voted Labour, then Labour again. But in 2010 I voted for the Lib Dem’s as they appealed most to what I believed in by that time. Clegg forming a coalition with Cameron ruined all that, but the point I’m making is I don’t get this “I’m a staunch Labour man always have been always will be” approach to something that changes with the times.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry Ace, but if you think changing your party every election, because they maybe don`t do one or things right that you disagree with is the way forward, then that is why we are in the mess we are.
There is a basic principle surrounding every party, very little has changed with any of the major parties since their formation and that is why you vote for a particularly party. The truth is there is absolutely very little difference between Blairs Labour Party and Corbyns, it is just that the media dress it up as being completely changed, it hasn`t.
You have to ask yourself if MPs in the main stay completely loyal to a party, why cannot members. How many of the Labour MPs have jumped ship from Blairs Labour to Corbyns Labour, very few because they still believe in the Labour Principles, which have never gone away, just because the leaders have changed. Same could be said of the Tory Party, how many Tories have changed Party from Thatcher to Major to Cameron to My to Johnson, very few because the Tory Principles, even though I cannot stand them, are much the same as they have always been.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet Blair was highly criticised for moving closer to the centre/right ground and thatchers principles which p***ed off traditional labour voters and the Trade Unions.
That stance actually won him a lot of the “floating” electorate and kept him in power for a decade.

So happy that Boris got smashed yesterday. That’s what you get for trying to f*ck with our Parliamentary Sovereignty you tin pot dictator.
He now leads a minority government and Labour will simply refuse to back a General Election until their terms are met.
He’s f*cked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Tories promised to deliver Brexit. They based the whole campain on lies.
People voted for something not knowing for what they exactly voted and which consequences it would have.
The Tories failed badly. People who voted for them should think about twice to do it again. Johnson, Farage and the whole bunch of losers should fack off immediately.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What were the lies told by the Tories? Especially when you recall that the PM and Chancellor were staunch Remainers.
Was it the £350m on the bus? NHS already secured a £20bn Brexit windfall.
Go on and list the lies told by the Leave and compare to the lies told by the Remain camp.

Stop saying people didn't know what they were voting for, it's beyond arrogant.
Bottom line, the majority of people voted to leave the EU. A deal was tried, it failed leaving no deal as the only viable option.
And you can personally slate Johnson all you like, he'll absolutely romp the next election hence why Labour suddenly don't want one. It's got nothing to do with Boris being able to change the election date, he can get that set in law. They know he'll destroy them, and he will. Since he's been PM he's actually stood up for what the majority of us want, the polls show it clearly.
You can doubt the polls if you want but the only way Boris doesn't win a minimum 60 seat majority is if the Brexit Party oppose him, and Nigel is already making noises that this won't happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've spent considerable time researching the EU, trade, and customs policy, and feel I'm reasonably well informed to opine on Brexit.
In 2015 I can confidently say (whilst I voted remain) I did not know what I was voting for.
I was unaware of the complex nature of our EU relationship and the multiple EU agencies etc the fabric of country relies on to function.
Anyone (on either side of the debate) who claims they knew exactly what they were voting for is telling porkies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I voted to leave the SM, CU & ECJ. Any deal that does not deliver these is not Brexit.
You on the other hand probably voted Remain. Stop trying to lecture us as if we don't know what we wanted during the referendum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you asked those who voted to leave to define SM, CU and ECJ right now, after hearing about little else for 3.5 years, I'd bet 99% couldn't accurately answer the question.
They voted Leave because they don't like brown people and don't like being unemployed. That's the truth of it.

There is an alternative. The EU decided from the start to use the Irish issue to stop us from leaving. There's a video on this btw.
But as one poster mentioned earlier, if we leave with no deal, they will find an alternative.

You only need to look at the back of your annual tax return to see the pie chart of government expenditure. EU (multi annual finance framework) contributions are less than 1%.
Yet erecting trade barriers with your closest and largest trade partners, plus downgrading your global trade policy somehow will result in a windfall. It's nuts!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you vote Leave?
If not, why do you assume to know the reasons why others voted Leave?
EU membership is what is actually stopping highly skilled non-whites to immigrate to the UK. Brexit will provide a level playing field for all migrants regardless of skin colour.
To "What would Stuart Pearce do?" - I can see that some of the points in the text are problematic, particularly point 17 considering it's a legal agreement. I can also appreciate why Ireland would be staunchly against Brexit given that it creates problems for them - particularly from the continued meeting of this agreement - and they get no benefit from it. i.e. The backstop is entirely preferable to them so they back it.
I still see it though that if there was a no deal and a manned hard border was refused then it becomes a priority for everyone - UK, Ireland and the EU - to find and build up ways around it. Not saying it would be easy or in any way quick, but will and energy on both sides should be able to gradually overcome it. I suppose I find it hard to buy when it's declared as an impossible situation given the rapid technological improvements of the time.
Of course, it might help if Boris's government looked like they were actually putting some effort into developing a solution and not just using the situation as an excuse to guide without challenge toward a no deal.

The ultimate irony has always been that the constituencies that are most reliant on EU development funds in the UK are those with the greatest proportion of Brexit voters. And they can't seem to realise that the increases in spending promised by the government (Brexit windfall 🤣) are less than the austerity measures the same government inflicted. Brexit voters blame the EU for austerity somehow, I haven't worked out why yet (other than 'we don't like foreigners'.
I could spend all day answering these dumb questions, but it says a lot that Leavers shout WE KNEW WHAT WE WERE VOTING FOR (clearly untrue) when a simple vote would clear things up. But three Tories won't allow it because now, with more facts, Remain would comfortably win. So instead we let this ridiculous issue paralyse the country and plunge us into recession when there are far more important Global issues.

I've seen it.
It was a behind the scenes (warts and all) documentary. The scene you refer to was a discussion with Leo Varadkar in which he was pressing home the importance of the Irish protocol in the WA.
It was not however anything like you have characterised it to be. Simply because the Irish protocol (backstop) was a August 2017 UK proposal when the government proposed a NI-ROI customs territory to solve the border issue.
As the DUP would not sign off, the UK in turn proposed a UK wide customs territory. Which despite placing the EU at a disadvantage, it was reluctantly agreed to in an effort to get the WA passed by the EU Council.

Let me explain to you then.
The UK had a points based system called Highly Skilled Migrant Program (HSMP), Working Holiday Visa program & the Post Study Work program.
From 2008 onwards, these programs, which benefited migrants from non EU countries, were gradually phased out.
Why? Because of the flood of migrants from Eastern Europe.
That's how free movement has impacted on non EU migrants.

Yet erecting trade barriers with your closest and largest trade partners, plus downgrading your global trade policy somehow will result in a windfall. It's nuts!
