There's about a messi sized gap between barca and a mid table la Liga side at the minute tbh

He carries such a ridiculous load

Van Dijk is the Gaot

Terry had the likes of Makelele and Essien in front of him to go with a defensive minded manager and defensive style of play.

Also, Chelsea had a great attack so the argument they were defensive because their attack was inferior to ours is poor.

Chelsea were better than all the league but still played a boring defensive style even against the smaller teams not just the big teams.

He should win it.

For a defender to play against the likes of Hazard, Aguero, Sterling, Mbappe, Neymar, Lewandowski, Suarez and Messi and not be taken on once is a stat that is unheard of.

Capped off that miracle stay with a Champions League win.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah the old myth stat.

VVD is definitely better than Terry though.

Terry was in his pomp when the financial doping at Chelsea was at its most rampant. He had a lot of help from top class teammates and oil money.

VVD is class but he’s in the same bracket as the lies of Terry, not above

He’s not doing anything no other centre backs have done in the past, he’s just one of the best around in the present.

Terry was around in an era when there were a lot more world class centre backs. VVD stands out more as he’s not got as much competition.

Like I keep saying, that doesn’t take anything away from how good VVD is.

Is VVD doing something no other centre back has ever done? No.

Are Messi and Ronaldo doing things no other player has ever done, let alone wide forward? Yes.

compelling argument.plot gets thicker.

I think van dijk wins it at the same level as modric wins it, but nobody is under any illusions that Messi and Ronaldo are still far better footballers, their status and names are wider reaching than van Dijk.

And this thing of trying to pull out 2 games in which messi didnt perform and make it seem like scoring 50 goals is an easy thing is nonsense.

The fact that a nearly 30 year old messi can still out score and out assist his younger peers is testament to how far ahead he is as a footballer and the standards he has set.

If this was a 30 year old ryan giggs with 25 goals the british media will be screaming for him to win POTY.

Obviously Messi and Ronaldo are better footballers in their positions.
But would be utter gash in VVDs position.😀
Think Virgil is a shoe in for the award, and it will be fully deserved.

Messi has just done it for such a long period of time people just expect it from him. That shouldn’t take away from how freakish his stats are.

VVD is brilliant, but he also had arguably the best fullbacks and goalkeeper in Europe in defence alongside him last season.

It would be fully undeserved. Messi deserves to win it.

Yeah Messi has scored a lot of goals.

I dont think it would be any great surprise to see VVD win it though. He's won every other individual award he's been up for this year and if you know your football you can look past numbers.

It has nothing to do with knowing football, Messi has once again been the best player in the world. Just because you're bored of Messi scoring 50 goals every season, doesn't mean its still not damn impressive.

posted on 7/9/19

Right, firstly Im not bored of Messi scoring 50 goals, secondly I do think its impressive, thirdly youve completely missed the point which neans actually, yeah I think it does have a lot to do with knowing your football if you cant understand why VVD may win it.

What are you talking about? We're talking about who deserves to win and VVD categorically does not deserve to win it. That's all there is to it. He absolutely should not win it.
