Wenger as DoF?

Nah. The list of players he didn't sign is better than those he did.

Depends what the role entails but from what I understand a DoF to be, can't think of many better suited. Don't think he would take it though.

Not sure SAF would let him. I doubt SAF has that much power at the club but probably enough to veto it

Plus I doubt he wants to join and be Ed’s lackey.

We aren't looking for a DOF. We're looking for a yes man who will smooth things over with the fans, whilst doing the Glazers' bidding. Wenger could do well there

Looking at the long list of poor transfers that Wenger has made in the last decade I’m not sure he’d be the best man for the job.

A lot of managers have made poor signings, not many have made as many good signings as he has on a tight budget.

It’s not the mid 00’s, though. Wenger’s signings got worse the more money he had to spend. Xhaka and Mustafi cost about £60m between them. It wouldn’t happen anyway, but he’d be bad.

I genuinely think Xhaka is the worst footballer I’ve ever seen.

I remember watching a few of his first games and thinking he looked decent. That said, I also remember watching Djemba Djemba play against a French team in the CL and thinking we'd found the new vieira

I’ve never seen a guy who makes so many needless fouls. And I’ve seen Fellaini play

He'd be a poor appointment. His player recruitment was incredibly poor in the last 5 or so years.

There was no real strategy (which is exactly what you need from a DOF) instead it was buy top players who "became available" while panic buying dross ones for the positions you desperately needed quality in.

We already have our future DOF at the club. However atm he's sat in the managers chair.

I have no doubt whatsoever Wenger would take the job if offered to him

BBC gossip reporting that we are asking Van de Sar to take the DoF role.

I doubt this. Makes far too much sense

Don’t think VDS would want to leave Ajax (where I don’t actually think he’s a DoF) to work for Ed and be his stooge.

I've just traced the BBC report back to it's source - the Sunday Mirror.

Obviously, I have to withdraw the speculation above without delay.

Yeah Robb, he's actually much more than a DOF at Ajax, isn't he? He's like their CEO or something. If United could get him on board, it would be a helluva coup. Whether he's want to come to us, in our current state, in a downgraded role, I wouldn't be holding out much hope

posted on 8/9/19

I think Marc Overmars is or was a Technical Director and VDS is the CEO

Imagine giving that up to come to us (the 2019 us) and have to report to someone as clueless as Ed.

posted on 8/9/19

Yeah it seems more of a pipedream than anything

posted on 8/9/19

Best case scenario is new owners, no Ed, VDS comes in and takes over as CEO and we get a new manager (I understand that last one is my preference haha)
