Early days but so far

Still too early as you said. I really hope he get us to at least 5th place this season and the board give him another year. All his signings have been good so far, which is a good sign compare to the previous one. Add a decent goal scorer and Maddison to the team and we will look much better going forward

I've only seen the Chelsea and Wolves games in full, due to family stuff... Both of which showed some good and some bad.

As long as we are in the mix for top 4, then i'm happy enough. Inconsistency will be similar for everyone bar City and Pool, sadly.

It's probably the weakest squad, on paper, for some years... Yet there is some excitement in the amount of youngsters that will be on show.

Good post and I tend to agree. On the whole, I think the 5 points we've got just doesn't reflect how we've played in those matches. I just hope that confidence isn't shattered because of this start.

Looking at the signings: All three have looked like they're adding to our capabilities. When was the last time we've been able to say that?

The stuff we've removed has also been good.

The only issue - as so many have said - is that we've not replaced two of those sales (Lukaku and Herrera). I predict at least one of these will be filled (even if it's only a short term signing) in January.

Once we have our first team back it will be a good race for the top 4. The thing with utd is not much squad depth which could cost you.

Ultimately it’s a results game and we should judge the manager on those. If he doesn’t get top 4 then he should leave as it’s not exactly a high bar this season.

I don’t expect us to win every week as if we did then we’d be competing with City but I expect us to win most of our home games and a good number of away ones. We have a decent squad so Ole needs to get the best out of them.

All in all, I have to say I seem to be in a minority in thinking that what I have seen so far this season is an improvement in performance level but unfortunately the results haven't came with it.

-----------------

There are many changes going on at the club.

1) Squad upheaval
2) Changes to fitness levels and playing style
3) Restructuring of staff
(4) The players are wearing suits again)

All of those changes are going to take time to implement. To expect an immediate upturn in results is delusional (thats where Robb comes in).

Its clear to me that there have been changes to the benefit of the club. However, it is going to be a rough ride. We need to give Ole a chance to build something.

It's bizarre isn't it, I thought chelsea could be over the hill if we took our chances against utd in first half. Yet the result now shows 4-0.
You probably feel the reverse for the wolves game.

I have seen an improvement this year at chelsea in terms of performance, but the results have been worse. It's odd.

Hopefully once our first teamers are back we will turn the corner.

James looks a real signing for you guys and mctom looks to be settling in and making that position his.

This.
Robb was all about giving Jose another season despite the dreadful football and cloggers like fellaini and lukaku playing ahead of better footballers.

Ever since the club finally got rid of the plodding trio you have been bitter.

From the corresponding games last year... We're 2 points better off

Baby steps... But that's what we need to aim for over the season, improving results in games we dropped points in last year

I'm oddly optimistic.... But I've been in Croatia for the last week, its blazing sunshine and I'm half canned in a harbour side bar

We're going to win the league ***

So if you only judge on results.......

it depends on how you define ultimately it's a points game. If you mean will a manager be sacked if he loses every game, well yes.
If you mean that there is no enjoyment to be had watching your team unless they win, then no. People, in general, go for entertainment, they want their team to win but recognise that sometimes they will lose as well. It's a sport, we demand something good to watch, and hope to win things.

I'm still very much in the camp of it's early days and this season is the start of a rebuild.

We will desperately want top 4, but the hierarchy have also taken the gamble of not improving the attacking side of the team this window.

Ole is tasked with the job of delivering entertaining football, whilst using young players who have little to no experience at the top end of the game.

I've always said whether or not he remains our manger for a long duration of time or not, doesn't take away from the fact that he's been a big part of turning the club around in terms of removing the square pegs for round holes and players that aren't playing for the badge.

People expecting as to walk into the top 4 with ease are delusional. Our squad isn't 4th best in the league on paper and the teams just below us last year have better, more experienced goalscorers in their teams.

Or 1 win in 9 PL games and could very well soon be 1 win 12 with the next three games coming up.

There should be no reason why we shouldn’t be aiming for getting back in the CL with this squad as a minimum expectation. Sides can rebuild and also have a minimum target. Klopp rebuilt Liverpool and got them into the CL in his first full season. I expect the same from Ole.

With the lack of quality in the squad the results are going to be inconsistent. And with the age of the squad it’s not as important for me as the performances. Though the performances are actually what’s worrying. We’re still seeing a lot of the same problems that have plagued us for years - though it’s unsurprising given we’vw actually weakened our squad.

True but as long as the manager is making mistakes like playing Pogba in a defensive two or making the wrong subs he isn’t helping himself. He’s decided that Lingard, Martial, James and Rash are enough firepower for this season and he’ll have to hang his hat on that decision

I hope I’m wrong and feel free to bookmark this comment but in the next few weeks as the two times a week game pile up starts I predict we will pick up injuries and have some real issues with line ups.

And ultimately if we have a poor season from avoidable issues the manager will have to go.

😂

It’s as valid an opinion as anything else said on here. My apologies for deigning to challenge your own viewpoint.

You keep saying this when it's false. Ole has already said on multiple occasions that he wanted more attacking options but that the club were unsuccessful in bringing them in this window.

It’s not in good faith, and you’ve bored us to death with it. So I don’t actually care, I’m not alone in this.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s bizarre you bring this ‘good faith’ argument up. I don’t think Ole is good enough and I always try to bring logic and a reasoned argument to anything I’ve stated

Most of the football world agrees with my viewpoint rather than me trying to make some crazy claim fly. It’s bizarro world where people who think he’s a good choice act like they’re the ones who are the logical, sane ones.

Think you should take a leaf out of Darren's book with this one.

Rob will be on an 'I told you so' crusade for the rest of the season.

It’s really not an ‘I told you so’ thing though

As said before multiple times, Ole is the rank outsider here. His success is unlikely so there’s no value in me saying ‘I told you so’ as the majority of the football world don’t think he has it. I’m arguing on the side of logic. If he’s sacked tomorrow it doesn’t make me some sort of footballing prediction god. Just a guy who didn’t rate a rank outsider in a position where we need better.
