They are the folk who should be rewarded. The honours system is farcical as Beckham will no doubt at some stage get a Knighthood. I have nothing personal against him but if he gets a knighthood for services to football it makes a mockery of the system

Giving knighthoods to sportsmen is a complete farce to me. They are already in a very privileged position being able to play sport, and they are only doing a job at the end of the day. They certainly should not be getting knighted for merely doing what all of us have done at one time or the other, and that is just working for a living.

Have no issue with Strauss being knighted but Boycott is poor given his past controversies. Seems he's only knighted because he was May's favourite cricketer.

We should have a Citizen of Europe award for those who have done extraordinary work in their community or who have contributed to the quality of life and or equality of wealth for all European Citizens.

I was reading something that said you had to be whiter than white to get a knighthood. Apparently Beckham is after one but has a cloud hanging over him because of his marital issues of the past. They look at your personal history, your tax situation, your business affairs etc. It’s supposedly quite a rigorous process, you have to be as clean as a whistle.
Interesting then that McCartney was knighted about 20 years ago, despite having a drug charge on his record in the U.K. and being chucked inside for possession in Japan, and also owning a company, Apple, that was essentially created as an elaborate tax dodge. I have no doubt that if he were still alive Lennon would also have long since been knighted, despite co-owning the same tax dodge company, also having a drugs charges, as well being involved with radical political groups that were known to send money from the US to the I.R. A in the 70’s, and being a self confessed woman beater. Suggests to me that it’s nothing but a populist PR machine for the Royals.

dont get what even qualifies for it, the police officer Pc Wayne Marques who charged down 3 terrorists with knives while just wielding a baton should have been knighted. guy had no regard for his own safety and wanted to protect everyone, can't think of anything nobler

Neither Strauss or Boycott deserve one, and neither did Cook. If so then Gooch, Gower, Anderson, KP, and a few other Cricketers warrant one.
I'm not against sports people getting knighted but only the great, or/and ones that have been long retired from the game, and have done substantial charity work like Beefy.
