Back to the topic of a few mins ago.

See when Scotland gets independence, we will be the rebels

I'll vote yes, then immediately go and buy a union jack to get straight onto noising people up
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I love the thought of Scotland voting for independence. Then immediately forgetting to vote in our first GE because most will see their job as complete.
Scottish conservatives in some guise coming into power.

Beautiful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds like a rather wild fantasy to me.

I'll be too busy burning and torturing tories to give a f@ck.

Folks from the towns where a lot of Scotland fans come from don't get too many away trips through club football. Supporting Scotland is an excuse for them to get away from their hoachin wives and screaming weans and go somewhere civilised for a couple of days.

They leave their wee towns and think that by putting on their kilt and timbies that they will be received with open arms the world over as members of the famous Tartan Army. Something to do with some bloke getting a kiss off a Swedish copper a few years back.

I think there is a statue of him in Stonehaven or something.

Problem is that at the end of the day a lot of these guys are just small town bams out on the batter with their in built hatred of all things weegie and in particular Rangers - the type of Weegie there is. And they cannie help themselves.

They hate weegies and Rangers more than they love Scotland.

Basically they are Aberdeen fans.

This is scarily accurate

No it doesn't

It sums up the Glaswegian mentality of hating everyone who lives outside of Glasgow while complaining that everyone hates weegies

My experiences of following Scotland abroad is that the Tartan Army are well received and the locals are genuinely friendly. People genuinely come over to have a chat with you just because you support Scotland and everything is good humoured.

To criticise a bunch of guys (teuchters or not) who sit around having a few drinks then waddling back to their hotels when these same cities routinely have to endure violence when other fans from other countries visit is just ridiculous.

It's just another example of the self-loathing we have in this country for reasons that are beyond me.

Ivan I am afraid my view of this was formed directly of my own experiences as a weegie living and working in more than one location up on the East coast for a number of years.

I played football in the Aberdeen leagues and there were two of us who were regularly targeted for some very special treatment because - in their words - we were 'Weegie C***'. I actually started to answer to that by the time I had left we were called it so often.

And a lot of the same old barfly faces in these small towns are the guys who make up at least one element of the tartan army. They lead a pretty mundane small town life and Scotland trips are a means of escape from that.

I have been on away trips with Scotland in the past and met multiple groups of people I knew from living and working in these places. Its bad enough trying to avoid them when you are at home but its your worst nightmare when you bump into them away at the football.

And the only time they wear kilts is at weddings or when they are away with Scotland. I really don't get the whole kilt or tartan troosers on at the football thing. Its just attention seeking.

Whether you have experienced it or not - it isn't pandering to any fictional stereotype. It is genuinely my direct observations from years of being up and yonder.

And the irrational hatred of Weegies is very real for a lot of them.

Aberdeen in general is full of b@wbags.

The fact Ivan seeked a move up there says it all.

Lots of stereotyping here.

Are there any Scotland fans who support the whole Scotland team and don't hate Rangers?

There are normal people who go to Scotland games and actually support our national team, without a thought for Feenyins or hvns or anything else.

I know, it sounds fvckin mental eh.

of course there is different elements within every support.

But you cannot really deny that Scotland does have one very vocal, very easily identifiable element which pretty much revels in their own stereotype of the cheery kilted jocks.

They do exist. So its fair enough to talk about them.
