Rome wasnt built in a day.

anyone expecting anything other than a struggle this season were very much disillusioned.

part one of the phase is nearly done and thats clearing out a massive amount of deadwood.

by all accounts we looked at the likes of Dybala and Eriksen but decided that their reasoning for joining utd wouldnt be what was best for the club.. so maybe finally they are learning.

W@nk Python claimed we should have signed Fernandes.. then claims he isnt a scout and doesnt scour the world for players... but by all accounts the club looked at him and decided for the money he was too inconsistent.

think its a case of riding this season out and starting fresh next year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, but it doesn’t quite work like that though

You don’t just write off seasons when you’re Manchester United. If we write off this season and come 7th/8th then not only does the perception of the club get even more damaged, the top quality players who we need to challenge the very best are even less likely to come to us. Then there’s more Europa next year which is something that’s more a hindrance than anything.

People think we’ll get rid of all the bad and then add quality next summer and all will be good but on the road this club is travelling on we’ll likely bring in B level players and struggle to compete for a long time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
noone is saying right it off, just dont expect too much.

we finally have the mentaility it seems of signing players who want to play for the club and dont just want a bumper pay cheque or players who are signed because they are big name players.

one more bad season will not break us like people seem to think.
lets not forget ( regardless of how people have perceived his signing) we signed Pogba when we were competing in the Europa league which was at the time a world record fee.

the club will still have the strength to compete in the market, moreso if the player involved can actually see that the club have that long term plan in place

----------------------------------------------------------------------

When we signed Pogba we had a top class manager who could attract the very best players. The club was just 3 seasons post SAF and the belief was there that it was a fresh start under Jose and that’s why we brought in players like Pogba and Ibra

If we finish 7th/8th under an unproven manager like Ole do you really think the biggest players will want to join us?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
a top class manager?

nah.. a big name, but not a top class manager, not any more
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He won the PL title the year before. And was still a very big name manager - if Ole takes this side down to 7th/8th place then the perception of this club to the outside world will be of a club in huge trouble and hardly attractive to the type of player we need.

Do you really think Jadon Sancho would join us then?

Would you prefer for us to have had another summer signing players on Sanchez and Pogba style wages that don't really care about being here? Just hoping that one day one of those signings actually works?

Facking hell, this Jadon Sancho obsession is getting ridiculous now

Would anyone take a draw right now?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You think we will win ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Certainly not impossible no.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously we could.

Do you think we will?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I really don't know, it depends how we play doesn't it.

I think we could win, yes, so therefor I wouldn't accept a draw before a ball is even kicked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We COULD beat anyone.

I cant see us beating them given our form, injuries, first game after internationals, so I'd take a point if it was offered right now.

By the way, the absolute very last thing we need to do next summer is spend our entire season’s transfer budget on one player.

But what does that really mean though? I’d imagine the vast majority of top players don’t dream or playing for Man Utd - I doubt Aguero, Silva and Sterling didn’t spend their youths dreaming of playing for Man City.

We will always need players who come for other reasons than ‘caring’ about playing for us. Whether that be for money or guaranteed trophies (if one day that is the case again).

I understand the dream situation - that we get rid of all the deadwood and within a couple of seasons we have a team of players, all who care about the club and take us back to the top but I feel it’s a pipe dream. Especially with sides above us all competing for the same thing and doing it better.

I doubt we could even get Sancho but he’s by far and away the most logical signing we could make up top. And that doesn’t mean he’s the only player we should go. I’m not saying we buy him and then all is good. We do need midfield signings too. But Sancho shiiiits all over anyone we have on the right side and fits all the profiles of what we need there.

Just a shame that I doubt he’d join this incarnation of United

If Fred’s available he must play. A spine containing Mata, Matic, Lindelof and Maguire is just asking to be run through.

Has Fred played since that City game where he was awful?

posted on 13/9/19

Nope, but he’s still better than Matic.

You don’t think we need to do serious work on the squad next summer then Robb?

Because there’s no signing Sancho whilst undertaking a serious rebuild.

He’d be the whole budget gone in one, without doubt.

Good for you, I wouldn't. It's not like we're playing City or Liverpool away.

Leicester have decent players, we've got our problems, but it's not a stretch of the imagination to think we can beat them tomorrow, it just takes a good performance which is all I can hope for.

I never understand the taking a point if it were offered argument tbh.

Does that mean I'd know beforehand the outcome, and forfeit actually being able to watch the game and get enjoyment from being a fan of the side? Why would I do that ?

Of course we need to do serious work on the squad

But we’re the richest club in the world and in a summer where Real spent 300 million euros, Barca spent 255 million euros and Atletico spent 243 million euros of hope if we were to do some squad fixing we’d spend around £200 million next summer

As far as I’m aware Sancho is supposed to be going for £100 million. If there’s even the slightest chance we can get him we should go for it as it’s so logical. Imagine going into another season with Lingard there?

In truth whoever we buy, there will be gaps elsewhere but Sancho is the next Rooney for me - in the sense he’s young and a guarantee of being a top player that is just begging us to sign him.

It’s beginning to look more and more correct when Jose said getting this squad to second place in the table was his biggest achievement in football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That squad was nothing like this squad.

He had just signed Lukaku, Matic, Lindelof, Sanchez (his choosing).

He had a much bigger squad, Carrick, Fellaini, Valencia, Herrera for example were in and out of the team.

I mean the squad that he had plus what was shipped out and thought of as dead wood.

I lazily put ‘this squad’ when I meant the squad that he had which many thought was average.

posted on 13/9/19

He also didn't have as much competition, there certainly wasn't two outstanding sides like Liverpool and City now. Plus the likes of Wolves and Leicester have come on a bit since too. Won't argue he got results with the likes of Fellaini and co though, however horrible it was to watch.

posted on 13/9/19

It's unbelievable what damage Jose did to us!

I mean we're weak enough now. What would we be like without James, Wan-Bis and McGuire? Jose's legacy.

City got 100 points that season and Liverpool made the CL final. So it wasn’t like the competition was that bad.

Back then 2nd place was considered a poor season and now we’re prepared to write off seasons so the decline is real. Sad to see.

I agree the squad wasn't great, but it was in a much better position than it is now.
