our bench this year compared to last year is going to be the difference for us.
Last year our bench was far too weak.
This year, within a couple of games we could potentially have a bench of ayling, Berardi, Shackleton, Roberts, Costa and eddie.
That’s going to be a difference for us
Yes, Wilks looks like he's going to be sharp - but Mowatt went missing in action and Halme struggled, I thought. Speaking of ex-players, Brentford lost again yesterday - bet Pontus is raging!
didn't see the game today so i like to go by you guys telling me what happened. conflicting views for sure, if i go by njs we're hopeless. if i look at the stats and what almost everyone else says.its a solid game that put's us first.
So if again we are top at xmas do we really need to strengthen, if we have injuries only?
I honestly don’t know Kamara.
I still have concerns that we don’t have have enough cover at centreback and worry what would happen there in that final run in.
But, then you have ayling and Berardi able to play there so I don’t know.
Personally it makes me nervous having only cooper and white... and I just can’t get over that

that last bit is how iv'e felt since the start of the season. just pray for no injuries game by game.
Bamford was excellent today, did everything right (although a couple of his attempts were either wayward or straight at the keeper) - what he did really well was run their defence ragged.
That provided the fresh legs of Nketiah and Costa the opportunity once they were introduced.
Bamford will get plenty of goals, but he also adds much more.
This was a different game to most - Barnsley played out of their skins, but they were pretty much dead on their feet by the time Kalvin swung that free kick in. See how much free space Eddie was in 3 yards from goal? And then the penalty.
That was the impact and legacy Bamford provided - leave things as they are at the moment
That's an astute observation, Long Tall. I was also encouraged that Bamford was putting himself about a bit today, against a big cb like Halme too. He needs to do more of what what Pukki is doing!
Again today, let's not forget an excellent performance from Stuart Dallas. I thought White was good again too and Kalvin was superb - so pleased he's signed a new deal!
Onwards and upwards, then - the obvious focus must now be on replicating this winning form at home.

Put it this way, until we scored, the matchday thread was pretty much all negatives. We deserved the win but we still have flaws that need sorting i.e Bamford as a lone striker, Bamford ahead of Nketiah and starting Costa
I still don't know what to think about Alioski recently.
He was hit and miss today. Often got into good positions only to have no end product (Alioski of old).
Main problem I have with him is he always seems reluctant to pass to Harrison. Pretty sure that's part of the reason why Harrison wasn't making an impact on the game and was subbed today.
We could do with Douglas firing on all cylinders to start ahead of Alioski.
I personally thought that we lost a lot when Bamford went off for Nketiah against Swansea. Seems to have worked today, but i.liked the foil they provided each other against Brentford. Bamford helps make space for Eddie and has a bit more to his game physically.
Good result and good start to the season.
"Arsenal held a series of discreet interviews this summer with applicants, from home and abroad, asked to present in-depth pitches as to why their club would provide the right temporary home for Eddie Nketiah.
Perhaps thanks partly to the relationship between Victor Orta, the Leeds director of football, and Unai Emery, Arsenal’s manager, the Yorkshire club won the competition to take the 20-year-old striker on a seasonβlong loan and on Sunday Nketiah once again reminded everyone what the fuss was about."

It has to be said that Orta does get it right sometimes.

Leeds were abysmal and got out of jail late on by a
striker who realised the goals don't move.
I don't really know enough about the quality of most
of the other teams, but if Leeds are among the 2 best
teams then the quality of the Championship is very
poor imo...only Casilla emerged with any credit, the
rest were mostly a ragbag of mistakes, the defence
were caught out numerous times and a better team
than Barnsley would have taken advantage...the
midfield lacked cohesion, usually good...the attack
as usual lacked composure, wasting good chances...
how we can keep indulging Bamford I don't know?
He's not a natural striker, he doesn't have a 'nose'
for goals, he's no 'sniffer' Clarke...I don't think he's
fast enough either in the head or legs...Hernandez
did he play?!
If we hadn't come away with the 3 Pts then I don't

At least I don't contradict myself, you say Shackleton in
midfield instead of Forshaw then advocate playing a
striker with Bamford...you can only have 11 players,
not 12!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bloody hell! Talk about numpties! Why would you assume I’d play 12
Ok I’ll spell it out for you....
Play Eddie up front with Bamford at home. Keep Shackleton in the team instead of Forshaw. Bench Harrison.
Casilla
Dallas. White. Cooper. Alioski
Phillips
Shackleton. Klick. Pablo
Eddie. Bamford.

This is where the confusion has arisen.
You haven't even mentioned Harrison in your article so it was fair to assume that you were bringing on an extra player, hence the 12 man jibe.
Love Inspector Clouseau x
I like shacks and as a stand-in he has a role but Forshaw has been perhaps our best player this season and no way would you drop him. We dominated but also Barnsley were able to exploit the big gap that having no Forshaw presented.
Shacks will mature into a good player but for me on occasion showed just how raw he was yesterday.
Costa is an impact from the bench kind of player, adds an extra dimension when teams are tiring.
The change I would make from yesterday would be, other than starting with a fully fit Forshaw, to bring back Douglas, Alioski's not looking at his best.
What a bunch of sad individuals having a go at someone for trying to be positive. NJS just another user indicative of the problems on these board. We are top, have had a good start to the season, are well placed in almost every stat that matters (goals scored, goals conceded etc) and yet people feel the need to target users being positive about that?
The formation that Stoopo posted was not dissimilar to the way Bielsa played against Brentford, whilst playing both Nketiah and Bamford, so clearly it is a style of play he is willing to utilise and, on the night in question, was pretty effective as it helped us get our breakthrough.
I don't think the natural assumption when someone says that they want to bring a player into the starting lineup is that they want to play with 12. Clearly what was meant was that someone would make way to accomodate Bamford and Nketiah in the side. Saying otherwise is just being overly pedantic.
Great post Stoopo.
