MUDD - would you say the younger generations share the view of generations past?
Let's not forget only a couple of decades ago grandparents in the UK may have felt similar.

The younger generation is a mixed bag to be honest, the more provincial the upbringing the more backward the thinking is to be honest.
It is not just with black people as well, they treat Romas the same way

My grandmother never spoke to my wife because she is black and never saw our children till she died.

That must have been hard on both of you, especially for your wife I can imagine. Its such a terribly pity that a grandma doesnt get to see her kids because of racist feelings. We are all the same inside and for the children its even more tragic that they never got to know their granny.

It was hard indeed especially as my wife did everything in her power to "assimilate" including learning the language.
