A really ill-judged comment that was obviously not thought through. He really didn't think of the long term consequences with that comment. Because although the bananas might stop him temporarily, they are a really good source of energy and would actually make him harder to stop over the longer term in the match due to the increased energy levels.
He did not think that through at all.

As much as I love to laugh at Rangers you are 100% correct in how things are dealt with
But
we can't point the finger at other Football Associations such as the Italians. Look at our own. Celtic v Rangers has a wee melee at the end between managers and a lot of sectarian singing - suddenly there is a summit to sort it all out. Both teams get fined, bans etc etc
Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, Killie etc etc etc are all just as bad if not worse with what they sing yet no summits or fines.
It's all about who it suits to punish as opposed to just drawing a hard line to stop it
