He's an attacking 8 all day long and twice on Sundays. Why you wouldnt want such a clean striker of the ball, who can generate lots of power with little back lift in and around the box I dont know. He's more than decent in the air too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because Ole is wedded to the 4-2-3-1. He clearly isn’t building his team around any given player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think thats a bad idea. Im a big advocate of creating a system that suits the players, maximises it's strengths and covers it's weaknesses (sounds obvious I know).

Im not sure playing Pogba there does any of that although Im thinking you already know this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You would be correct.

If we are sticking blindly to the 4-2-3-1 and Ole is determined that this is the game plan we’ll be using all season, we should be looking to offload Pogba this winter and using the cash to buy at least one top drawer number six and a number ten.

Pogba is neither, and we are short in both areas (unless Ole has faith in Gomes to play at ten, but that doesn’t seem to be the case).
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I just cant see Gomes getting game time while he is that height and weight.

Maybe but if he the ability it should shine through. The greatest player of our generation and probably of all time is a very small lad.

Deceptively strong though whereas I’m not sure Gomes is.

In the very little I've seen of Gomes in mens football, he managed to retain possession of the ball better than some of the other 6ft+ lumps we've had in recent times.

I just cant see a 5ft 2in, 8st player getting lots of minutes.

We will never know until he is given the chance. I expect to see him feature a fair bit in the Europey, hopefully starting on Thursday.

Yep fair I just find it unlikely and let's fave it there is not much, if any, precedent for players that size succeeding in first class football.

Just be clear Im a massive fan of Gomes and been not quite bangimg on but mentioning hik for a couple of years now. They should also have a reasonable idea of how much he'll unless his mum has been telling porkies so it may just be a waiting game. Trouble for Utd is he may be gone by the time that happens.

A wasted talent. Fred has a remarkable ability to intercept the ball and pass it quickly. I can't help thinking that if Guardiola had Fred, he would turn into a pearl.

We should bring Lukaku back to be Gomes's nutritionist if he needs to put weight on.

Well, I don't know which Fred you've been watching - he sounds excellent - but the one we have has a remarkable ability to charge after the ball, vacate space he'd be better off marshalling, not get anywhere near the player in possession, and when he does get the ball, play rushed passes to absolutely no one who is actually on his team.

*But*, he does bring a bit of urgency and does at least try to move things quickly - if imprecisely. So I'd like to see him get given a run finally and see if he can actually adapt to the speed of the PL. I'm doubtful, but I've seen enough of our current midfielders to know that it can't get much worse.

Your assessment of Fred's ability is based on how many games ? What I find worrying is Ole's obsession with English academy players. Lingard and Rushford can play ten poor games in a row and still start, but it takes Fred one poor halftime and he is dropped.

SAF treated Anderson in exactly the same way. Ando had a bad game, in came Fletch for the next ten.

Managers will pick on how theyre doing in training rather than matches more often than not.

Fletch was a superior - and arguably far superior - player to Anderson though tbf.

Yes he was. Anderson has more natural talent, fletcher used what he had better. Not even close.

We will have to agree to disagree on that on Baz.

Fair enough. Struggling really to think of one good Anderson game, where I can think of a few with fletch.

He had a run of them at the start of the season where we beat Arsenal 8-2.

Probably the last time we played superb attacking football. We won the first five games scoring 21 goals. Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea were in those five games.

From what I've seen, he's so far managed to refrain from being an utter prat this time to be fair. I'm sure it wont be long though.

And yet I still can’t think of Anderson really impressing me that much then.with fletch he was superb at times, especially big games. Anderson for me was always overrated.
