A poor or average midfield does not win a CL or finish on 97 points.

It's just odd. You look at some of the midfields that have come up against and been beaten and still they persist. Each to their own but it seems a bit clueless to me.

It amazes me how underrated our midfield is on here as theyre all a managers dream.

In the same breath if you asked whats the most important part of a football team most would say midfield and you dont get to be a part of a team achieving the things this Liverpool side is by being 'poor' or 'average'.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Achieving things?

You beat serial bottlers Spurs in the champs.league thanks to a dodgy handball decision.

It does if carried by a world class CB, very good FBs and great frontline

We just won the CL, beating Barca along the way and finished the season with 97 points and somehow our midfield is average and it was only got a penalty in the final.

It's clear you have no understanding of football.

Tell me this; how do you believe the very good full backs and the great front line get the ball to do what they're good at? How do you believe we dominate possession and win the ball back all over the pitch giving us the platform to build the attacks.

Think about this very carefully.

Yeah. Its lost one league game in 55 or something, won 14 games on the bounce, not lost a two legged tie in Europe for three years, got the third highest points total ever recorded, won the CL and literally beaten every team its faced in that time at least once bar Real Madrid (and maybe Sevilla, not sure).

I cant be assed to debate the semantics of the word achieving in this context who thinks Fabinho is no better than Fred.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you even begin to do that?

I'd say Firmino first but to list them in order is impossible considering they all had vital roles which gave others the platform to perform in their roles.

Right so we basically just bypassed the midfield and that's how we did it. Is that what you're saying?

So basically midfield isn't important as you can just bypass it, as long as you have a sweeper keeper, a defender who can pass the ball and a good attack.

Interesting.

answer to OP.

If we had the muck that utd have we'd have not won anything and not go near city.

While our lads might be called "functional" or "workmanlike" they do the job and put everything on the line.

I can say for sure if Pogba was playing barca he'd have given up after 10mins and not bothered turn up for the second leg at anfield.

Sadly, it's fairly clear Liverpool have the better midfield. The OP is making the mistake of comparing them individually rather than as a unit.

Yes but even individually they are better. Certainly none of them world class but all better than United's midfield with the exception of Pogba, a few games a season.

Fabinho is better than Mctominay, who I like and Matic who is done.
Henderson is better than Fred.
Wijnaldum overall better than Pogba as Pogba doesnt put the effort in the get consistency. Talent is not enough, look at Balotelli.

But and this is the biggest reason why they are better, they perform the roles they are given within the system they are given, much better than their United counterparts do in the roles they are given within their system. If only RDD had a bit of understanding of football he'd realise this.

Because they are individuals. Or are their individual abilities not important?

Pogba is an individual, yet your midfield is crap. What's the deal here?

Yeah calling it crap is being too generous.
