As for Pepe. He needs to have a good game on Sunday. Honestly it does look a lot like gervinho at the moment

Ramsey's problem at Arsenal was he was too often injured. Had one or two games and then being sidelined for weeks. Never got a rhythm apart from a four months spell in his whole Arsenal career

What does Ceballos offer offensively that Ozil doesn’t already do but much better? Both are lightweights when it comes to defending. He’s certainly no Santi mk2.

Nowhere on the same level as Santi.

Ceballos actually runs. He tackles. He has been here what 5 games and made 2 tackles that led to goals. He can shield a ball and is stronger than Ozil. Ozil is a creative genius, but he does not fight for the right to play. Ceballos may not be a Santi mk II but it's early days. In "easier" games, I'd like to see a midfield 2 of Ceballos and Torreira in a 4231 with Ozil as a 10. But the issue with that is you need the two outside forwards to track back...and Pepe and Auba wont do that. All in all, we have an imbalanced squad. If you want to play out front 3, you need to sacrifice Ozil. But he could potentially get the best out of them...go figure.

In other news, can Chambers play right back till Brllerin returns and then push him into the CB role again? He looks so much more assured.

Don't make me laugh. You can't possibly compare Ceballos to that sulky, lazy, slopey-shouldered cash vacuum. Ceballos exceeds Özil's workrate without breaking a sweat.

The midfield is horrendous but it doesn't have to be. I don't believe Xhaka is necessarily the issue but how he's used certainly is. But if you remove Xhaka (and Özil), we have Ceballos, Guendouzi, Torreira as a DM, Willock and Nelson as wide men or wing forwards - that's not a bad midfield. It could do with one or two reinforcements but otherwise it's simply being misused by a manager who, much of the time, looks like he doesn't know what he's doing.

Definitely being misused by the manager

We definitely have the players in the squad. The issue is that it is obvious Xhaka is the most vocal in the dressing room. But he is also the main problem. Whatever formation we play requires the holding player to either cover box to box or side to side. That player has to be able to see where the opposing counter attacks are coming from and screen the defence. Xhaka is neither fast enough nor positionally astute to read the play when we don't have the ball. Torreira, irrespective of his size is, Gwen is learning and Maitland-Niles needs to be tried in that position.

The problem is that Emery is scared of dropping Xhaka.
