Tomori

Great game from him. Lot of competition for our CBs this season and at the moment Tomori is in best form. He reminds me of Joe Gomez in style. One thing I do think about is that he is mistake prone, or has been in the past, at high balls/bouncing balls. Yesterday suited him great with one on ones vs Salah where he can show the best parts to his game. Coming out of defence he is like an auxiliary midfielder at times. Good long balls but can even beat players when needed. Think he’d do a fine job at emergency full back (has played there for Brighton and Hull).

It’s interesting as even as a fan of Tomori and Tammy before this season I kind of thought they’d be fine as a squad player but maybe not any more. I’ve soon changed my mind on both, they both have good potential that’s clear, their ceiling high. I’ve got on other fans for being harsh on Tammy but even big youth supporters perhaps didn’t expect the impact him and Tomori can have. It shows that it’s not just the *star* players of these academy sides that can make the grade, they were all talented. With the right loans and right management (and without injuries) I think there are loads of players from our 1996-1997 (+ Chalobah, Ake, Traore etc. )generation and above that could have made a similar impact.

Been more impressed with Tomori in 3 games than AC forever how long he's been here and he's far more assured than Zouma too.

So yeah, looks like Rudiger & Tomori should be 1st choice

That's a bit much. Christensen was class for a large majority of 17/18 (before his mistake against Barca), and never really got his breaks last season. Fans are giving up on him WAY too quickly.

We have four very good CB's, all have their issues but equally have massive potential. Tomori was very good yesterday.

Nother one would deserves a mention is Azpl. Not been at his best recently, but showed yesterday he's still got something too offer.... Ivanovic 15/16 he is NOT.

He looks a gem. Speed and the ability to defend are great qualities to have in a CB.

Wouldn't say he marked Salah out the game though, that sounds a stretch to me.

Christensen is fine in a back 3 for me, playing in the centre.

Just seems to be too lightweight and is made of glass.

Salah just had a poor game by his standards.

It is true, Tomori was good but also salah’s control wasn’t exactly tight,

Tomori is Rudiger Lite...which is no bad thing...liked what i've seen thus far, a definate plus this term

Salah was anonymous yesterday...Tomori might have had something to do with that...(might)

However minimal we can be sure Tomori played a part, what we can't ascertain is how much.

Salah having a bad game is down to more than one factor.

Agree with you TJ. He's a nice cultured player, but I do get worried when he's up against a really tough competitor. It was his error that gave away the free kick from which Liverpool scored their first goal too. Mane had the ball with his back to goal, and Christensen needlessly dived in to give away the free kick. He should have known better too - Mane is very quick, so it was stupid to dive in.

Similar to Courtois, I don’t think Christensen has played at a higher level than he showed in his initial loan at Gladbach. Even during his break in the 17/18 season, his influence in the team was that he played it simple and did not make mistakes (up until the Barca game).

Despite this I still think he is the defender with the highest potential, he just lacks the personality on the pitch which Tomori so far is bringing.

Can't see him surpassing Rudi

Totally agree with the OP, been impressed with Tomori and definitely winning race to partner rudiger long term in my opinion (albeit I think there is a need to buy a better CB than all the ones we currently have and move Zouma, or maybe even AC, on)

Tomori had nothing to do with salah, salah won a few corners and throws vs him but other than that salah was just awful his touch and control dribbling etc were shocking he started most chelsea attacks.

That said tomori looks promising hes some athlete for sure but our front 3 were all pretty poor last game. Salah still got in a few times but his donkey touches let him down he was 1v1 at one point two touches later and hes gone sideways into 3 chelsea players 😂

Very true. I dunno what's happened to his passing since he came back from Germany, he's capable to pinging it like Luiz with great variety. Pep wanted him at Bayern (and later City) for good reason, was very Pique'esque over there - classy, polished and very technically good - we just haven't seen it (yet).

It's funny. I still remember the rumor in 2017 that in order to pinch VVD from Liverpool we were willing to offer Christensen to Southampton - and this whole board (me very much included) ridiculing the very notion of it.

How quickly things can change

Tomori doing well thus far to take that third best CB spot away from Zouma, behind our best CB AC & second best Rudi.
