Fair enough.

But presumably we can both agree that there was absolutely no intention from Silva to associate Mendy with the historical character that you mention?

So what do people think his ban will be? Id take 3 now as a city fan. He will get 6 i rec which is a joke.

With the FA involved, who knows? They have absolutely no common sense.

There’s not much difference between the one with the spear and the one he compared him to. I don’t think he believes it’s racist, but that’s not really what people are saying, they’re saying it’s racist to claim Mendy looks like a racist caricature, because he doesn’t.

Good job its an Independent Panel that ultimately decides the punishment, if any is necessary.

It isn't a racist caricature. If it were, it would have been removed.

Whether he looks like him or not is a matter of opinion.

Its only on-field remarks that receives automatic 6 game bans. Off-field actions do not.

I think you’re ignorant to Spain’s issues with racism if you think that it can’t be racist because it’s still in use.

I think I probably know more about it than you, so perhaps leave our the claims of ignorance.

The point I'm making is that the image is not currently considered as a 'racist caricature' as you claimed.

If Silva had posted that picture on its own, there would have been no charge. That is evidence of my point.

Some snippets...

The Conguitos logo features a number of established tropes frequently found in racist caricature: round bulging eyes, fat red lips, no clothes. The name literally means “little people from the Congo”, and Conguitos adverts from decades ago employ the crudest sort of racial stereotyping.

the 1999 Macpherson report into the murder of Stephen Lawrence, which clearly asserts that racism can be perpetrated unwittingly, indeed entirely innocently, and often under the guise of well-meaning humour. A “racist incident”, Lord Macpherson writes, is “any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person”.

It is the last four words of that sentence that are operative here. It doesn’t really matter if you don’t find Bernardo’s tweet offensive. The fact is that plenty did, and even if we grant a certain degree of anti-City opportunism in the backlash, this isn’t so much a question of virtues and morals as one of basic courtesy. Even if you’re not personally affronted, why invalidate the experience of those who were? Why not be delicate? Why not tread with just a little caution?

Against my better judgement, I'll reply to you Viva Vida.

This is fine, if the person who is offended has a right o be. A middle aged white man has no place in telling me what is racist and what isn't. Sorry, they just don't.

If someone is genuinely offended then I'll listen to that person's views to try and understand them.

But you cannot deny that there are lots of people, particularly on social media, who will seek to be outraged by something that does not affect them. They just want to judge others in a race to the bottom of moral and social standards.

Those people are not worth anyone's time.

Amazing!

The Op going on about Sterling backing Silva over “alleged racism”!

Amazing to think that Liverpool FC backed Suarez when found guilty of racism and I quote.

“ We totally support Luis and we want the world to know that”

Yup they wanted the world to know that Liverpool FC supports racism! 👍

Seeing as the FA's commission said Suarez wasn't racist then you're talking outta your rektum.

Didn’t it say that he used insulting language which included reference to Evra’s colour?

I don't know if it said that.

Why don't you find out?

Mr Suarez's words, which included a reference to Mr Evra's colour, were insulting. The use of insulting words which include a reference to another person's colour on a football pitch are wholly unacceptable (paragraphs 385 to 399 above.

There you go. 👍
