Levy is great for the club. The stadium is unreal.
Problem is he isnt a massive football guy with not a massive football guy behind him as owner. Both prefer NFL i reckon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
at the end of the day, whether we like it or not, whether right or wrong, the simple facts are that tottenham hotspur is just another business in ENIC's portfolio... not a rich man's play thing...
we are run accordingly.
have mistakes been made? yes... have they been costly? yes... has levy also made good decisions? yes... have they benefited the club? yes.
the OP just has an incredibly simple mind, and cannot fully understand the situation

erm... huge contracts been on the table for those who haven't signed, and they haven't signed them.
the article and comments should end here really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When were those offers tabled?
Reason I ask is that if the player´s good enough and you leave it until he´s entering his last couple of years on his current deal, you can be sure other clubs will have called his agent already to ask what the situation is.
If - and I've no idea whether this is the case or not - if Levy typically tries to squeeze as much life out of existing contracts as he can, then he´s leaving himself tremendously exposed to this game.
Not only can clubs like Bayern, Juve or Barça generally afford to pay more, they are also very tempting prospects in terms of their track record of winning major trophies, and are also less likely to leave it until it´s too late to offer their better performers juicier deals. It´s been known to backfire of course (e.g. Bale´s bumper deal at Madrid), but those are the sort of risks those clubs have to and will take in order to maintain the status quo.
The fella can’t buy, can’t sell and can’t pay the going rate ffs.

Okay he spent £1bn on a new stadium and if we are happy to accept that investment at the expense of the opposite on the playing field then we need to lower our expectations about what we achieve.
We cant say he spent £1bn at Spurs facilities and then demand Pochettino challenge Liverpool and City too without the same backing.

yeah you may be right.
the investment into the club is plain for all to see.
the investment in the team has been less than could have been.
however if we take away all outside factors and look at the players currently in the squad, and then match them to the performances and results, then there is a mis match.
the current squad is massively underperforming imo, which is a completely different issue

It is but it's not just down to talent. There has to be a motivation and desire - the players don't have the same timescales as a club.
They want to get paid as much as possible and win as much as possible. If we aren't generally paying them market rates or investing in the squad then heads will turn.
Pointless having the talent if its not willing to work and i can imagine that being tough to manager for Pochettino. Players looking to leave the club and him still having them about, not listening and not interested.
i think our issues are way more than Levy & spending. Last night we had Lamela, Moura and Eriksen on the bench with GLC to come in. That's as good as I can remember for years.
In my opinion its disruption to the squad and their unity thats messing things up. This has, IMO, started with Poch who began a campiagn of self promotion and excuse making back in March, making some very unusual comments in the press on a regular basis. He's clearly not happy, for whatever reason.
We have the player contract situation and in particular Eriksen who is the one who's demonstrating his desire not to be there. Aldi & Verts actually performing to decent levels.
We have extended poor form which has now set in like a rot. We just can't shake it and move on. Sometimes even the best teams lose confidence temporarily. It just takes a few wins to get on track but we've failed to string decent performances together. It's now become a thing thats used to beat us with (rightly!)
When things go wrong there are only so many times the team can sit down and have an honest heart to heart about the situation. After a while these things become more meaningless and less effective. It kinda points to a fundamental change being needed.
I also think Poch is searching for answers tactically and some of these experiments have clearly not worked, but we are lacking some continuity in our tactics/formations/team selections. Weve totally lost any identity. City & LFC are the benchmark and they do not mess around with these factors that much. LFC, 2 of the best FBs in the land. Are they rotated? Almost always start their front 3 when fit. Same style of player whatever the opposition.
We built something, had total confidence in it, it brought results and all were committed to it. Now its been shaken to the core, its being questioned by everyone, we can't seem to drag ourselves out of this hole and so the key people are questioned.....Poch could lose the dressing room. It is IMO fast coming to a point when only a fundamental change will see a turn around. Not saying i want him gone at all, but unless this turns around quick quickly and we get on a roll when all those questions suddenly go away, then it may be the only option.
Whatever the reasons for this form, under-spending and a quality squad is not one of them IMO.
Is it really way more than Levy and spending? That's arguably the root cause of this. The problem is spending money off the field and expecting Pochettino to deliver on the field without it.
And to a large degree he has, but we cannot judge Pochettino for not winning the league when clubs who do regularly spend millions each season. Sure we broke our record with Sanchez and N'Dombele but these are casual signings for Man City. Bench players even.

good comment. the first few lines are very true
We've been here before in this situation. Remember when we lost 1-5 to City at home at the beginning of the 2011-12 season? Lost 3-0 to United before that and had only won 3 in 17 games going back to the end of the previous season. We brought in Adebayor (later than we should) in an area we desperately needed to strengthen and went on a run of 10 wins in 11. Shows how much signings can revitalise a team. Only this time our problem area hasn't been addressed and we can't make any more signings until January. GLC needs to come back quickly and help freshen things up but unlike Adebayor he doesn't have the PL experience and will take a while to settle in. Might have helped a bit if we'd brought him in earlier.
Essentially this all falls on the board for being so bloody negligent for so long.
