Leicester v Liverpool Pre-Match prattle

All Liverpool fans are praying Maddison is injured still out of respect. He is proving to be a great player for you guys and I hope he doesn't do a Maguire and move to a lesser team

I remember when we did the double over them and Andy Peake's wonder goal at filbert St. They do not like playing us!

We will make sure there is no ice on the pitch this time

posted on 4/10/19

We never had ice as we were one a few teams to have under soil heating.

I seem to remember the blue balloon too.

From what I've read, it looks like Maddison will be fit. Whether he plays a whole match - and indeed where he plays if he does start - are another matter.

I remember that Liverpool home match in the title-winning season well. The building blocks of what Klopp was building were being put in place, and they were very energetic in the first half, closing down and chasing everything. It was a good battle; Schmeichel made a point-blank save that would have been offside anyway and Mignolet produced two fantastic saves that made me think he was having one of those days that goalkeepers can have at times where they just produce worldie after wordie. I still don't know how he tipped a dipping Mahrez shot over the bar that looked bound for the top corner all the way.

Cue Vardy pinging a volley into the top corner from 30 yards and the KP erupting.

We had some colossal matches with Liverpool throughout the 1960’s and into the 70’s, believe me. The Cup replay at Anfield was amongst the highest of order and I was glued to a radio for that one. Apart from a few heavy defeats City seemed to up their game for this fixture.

I was fortunate enough to work closely with a fellow whose brother played for both clubs.

Liverpool hadn't been beaten in 63 games at Anfield and then we went there in 1981 and beat them 2-1, Pat Byrne and Jim Melrose scoring. Could history repeat itself? Who knows but I wouldn't bet against us, well at least I wouldn't put a lot of money on it, it's certainly not a banker of a home win.

As discussed on another thread, I feel we have to go there and have a go at them, no point being defensive. Let's go there press them, force them backwards and force them into making mistakes in areas where we can cause them problems. We need to keep the ball as far away from our goal as possible and the best way to do that is force them backwards and make them hit long balls, much like Sheffield United did. Then we have to rely on the pace in our defence and out wide to cope with the pace in their attack and from both full-backs but we certainly have the pace to deal with that. I don't fear them beating us on the break as I would have done in previous years.

We might well lose but if we want to get anything out of the game and potentially take all three points then this is the approach we need. We need to go there with the mentality that we're a top six team and a top six team will go there and play to their strengths and let Liverpool worry about stopping them. Nothing to fear, just go there and have a go and see what happens.

Jim Melrose played for both clubs, I'm friends with him but good friends with his brother Frankie, he used to be my football manager at numerous clubs, basically where he went he took me with him.

Aero, I went to bed one night and Jim Melrose had left the club and we got Tommy English? WTF happened there?

Your away form (and Brendan's in general) has me quietly optimistic for this match and we also rarely lose at Anfield these days.

If you would of beat us last time at Anfield you would of won the league! I will take a draw right now but the pressure is on you not us!

I was talking about this season's away form.

Was Brendan in charge the last time we played you?...doubt it.

Puel knew how to grind out a result against the big boys.

tbh I'll take a draw now too because you guys are a good team BUT we should be winning.

If this was at the KP, than it is a different story.

You hadn't lost in 63 games but we ended that run so rarely losing at home doesn't really count for much, at some point you're going to lose that's inevitable because you're not going to continue to remain unbeaten at home forever.

Our away record since Rodgers took over is W3 L3 D2 so not that bad.

Pressure is always on us mate, irrespective of the game. When you're hoping to beat a team that has amassed 198 points in two season to the title then every game carries pressure not to drop points.

I just hope it is a cracking game and we do not set up like we did at Man U.

I don't know really...you guys are only behind City in terms of defensive numbers like total shots against and shots on goal and whatever whatever.

Think it will be a tight game....maybe a bit boring.

Yeah, I've got a feeling we might try to control through possession and stifle the game a bit. Midweek must have taken a bit of a toll on the player involved, lot of emotional energy used.
