The main difference with Klopp in his first part season with Liverpool is that he made various players better. Im not seeing any of that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Can't really remember that far back, but out of interest, who does this apply to?

Appreciate you feel you saw an improvement, but Klopp has pretty much replaced the entire first team, hasn't he?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Firmino and Can were probably the biggest but most players improved upon their form under Rodgers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lallana stood out for me. Went up a couple of levels.

Yeah there’s a fallacy that Klopp improves Liverpool’s team to what they are through coaching

He has bought basically that entire first XI, if you go back to when he joined there was no Allison, VVD, Matip, TAA, Robertson, Fabinho, wijnaldum, firmino, salah or mane. That’s 10 out of the first XI that he has bought or in TAA case promoted.

Completely different team to what he took over in 15. So can’t use the Klopp improved what Liverpool had argument to beat Ole with

Its absolutely not a fallacy to say he has improved players though and plenty of them at that.

Its also not a fallacy to say he saw problems and fixed them such as using Milner at LB and converting TAA to right back.

The Klopp and Ole comparisons are absurd to me.

Okay thanks.. wasn't Firmino signed about 2 months before though?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was but he didn't look all that under Rodgers and was being played out wide. It was Klopp who decided to try him as a false 9 where he has since flourished.

He certainly didnt make any players worse.

This is the impression I had.

Doesn't mean he's not a great coach and doesn't mean that we can't draw differences between his first 6 months and Ole's.

But it does suggest that Klopp required a fairly radical overhaul and that wasn't a Liverpool in disarray.

And let's not forget that Liverpool finished 8th in Klopp's first season - albeit not a full season, but still.

Fair dos.

I do think sometimes though that a manager's past is romanticised if things have gone well in the recent past.

I know the game has moved on but honestly, some of the football under SAF in those first few years was pretty poor. We look back and we talk about it as the block building for what came after, but that's not what was being said at the time.

Did Mourinho get fully paid off by United, or is he still on your wage bill?

Think Jesse, sadly has not really hit the height since LVG's farewell against palace in the cup. Rashford is struggling, but he isn't getting service from a crap midfield and again he is not a centre forward. We just got rid of De Gea's GK coach which he insisted was hired a few years ago - again who lets a player chose a coach. He will improve again now I am sure.

So, only 3 players playing "worse" (measured by arbitrary means) under Ole compared to before. Well, with the 3 he got in I guess he is on par then by that insightful analysis. thanks chaps.

Has Ole really improved a single player? At a push, McT but he was already playing well under Jose

He was half decent under LVg and Jose

Since Ole joined he’s had something like 2 goals and 1 assist

If you pull apart a squad and it takes time to replace many of the key positions, it's not exactly a fecking surprise that the players remaining will look worse for a period of time.

These players will look a lot better with central midfield resolved, I have no doubt about that.

This overly simplistic view of football is frustrating.
