Three years...still crap...ta ra Fergie

So you are saying we should have stuck with Moyes?

---------------------------------------------------

SAF said that in his final address to OT.

Robb is spot on in regards to player power, but keeping the players and removing the manager every couple of years is playing into and feeding that paradigm.

The board need to back a manager ans make it clear to the players that he is more valued than them.

RVN & Beckham were certainly shown that!

We came 11th, 12th & 13th under Fergie.

We also (thanks to patience and sticking with him until he could rebuild the whole club) won two doubles in three years (so close to three in three) then won the Treble, not to mention finally overtaking the seemingly impossible 18 titles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, totally different.

We had a bunch of pssheads playing for us and hadn't won a title in night on 20 years.

Youth system was trash and the board knew it was a rebuild of great magnitude.

People keep saying Fergie left us in a mess?

Biggest load of carp I've ever heard. We'd just won the league ffs. By a huge margin. Regardless of age of players I keep seeing people say "give Ole time, its impossible to bridge a 20 point gap in one season.

Except if Fergie retires, right?

posted on 8/10/19

You don't see the parallels?

SAF had to come in to a "sleeping giant" club and root out the bad wood, to rebuild and get them going again.

In the process things actually got pretty bad before they got better (11th, 12th, 13th).

Can you really not see the same thing is needed now?

Very true, whether Ole is the right man though is questionable.

Nobb was one of the know it alls who argued with me when I said SAF needed to replace the old guard of Giggs, Neville and Scholes.

It never happened and we are where we now are.

I think that he is the right man to identify/make the signings and bring through the youth. Difficult to say what he is capable in terms of management with this current squad. He does need to raise his game though on this seasons showing.

Agree that it is questionable, but back in 1989 it was questionable about Fergie too (hence the banner).

At some point, we are going to have to give somebody time, the rot has run too deep for an overnight fix.

in the late 80s it made no sense to stick with the manager, 13th was just unacceptable, yet stick with him we did. There was no guarantee that it would actually work out...

My thoughts too.

Didn't even Fergie got almost sacked, before things turned around for him?

I think the problem is that the current crop of fans are very, now and here type. They want to win now and here. They don't fancy waiting. That's why Klopp changed his football preaching from nurturing the youth to spending huge on players like he did to turn things around. City have too.

So I can see the current crop of fans, the ones born in 2000 and later, not wanting to wait.

They want a manager who's got the ball to knock on Edwards door and demand 5-6 players to be signed, of course, these players are marquee.

The odd united fan that is willing to wait and see, and give Ole a chance, are getting rarer every time United drop points on rivals.

I haven't seen any passion in Ole, though the same was true as a player.

Also, the formation doesn't inspire confidence and why play Fred? Who is this imposture?
How does this guy play at the highest level? ffs, I should sue someone!
Well, we re probably 3 floors up from where you guys are, and we need to turn it around. Though we do have a gutsy manager who isn't afraid to stand for his beliefs and will go to Levy and argue it out

Yes, I do know of how popular the Doc was as I do have a fine grasp of footballing history

I also know that the football played was infinitely better than Ole and he actually had some sort of personality

If Ole showed any promise whatsoever you’d have more people fighting his corner but a huge swath of the footballing side can see the obvious - he’s a lot closer to a Dave Sexton than he is close to a Doc

The point being back in 1982 (at the same stage in his career as Ole), had SAF been given the job at OT, you would probably have argued that he wasn't ready for the job. Only the hindsight of knowing what he then won after 1982 skews the comparison hugely in his favour.
