Where it went wrong was keeping the same guys all these years and not improving the team properly.
There are clubs that are serial winners each year who despite winning still go out and buy players to improve the squad and keep it fresh.
At their height Barcelona was pretty much guaranteed trophies a year but they still went and bought players like David Villa, Fabregas, Neymar, Suarez each season.
Tight owners is the problem, our once excellent team started to break up when Walker was tapped up by £ity with the promise of double your money wages, Levy would (or could) not match it and Walker demanded to leave.
He was replaced with a far inferior player which at the same time promoted his limited understudy to first choice.
Walker doubling his money at £ity n turn pist off some of our other top performing players of the time (Rose for eg.), and in some cases toys were thrown out of the pram, remember Rose `knowing his worth`.
And while all this was bubbling under, we were at the same time taking our eyes off sufficiently evolving the squad and failing to prepare for the future.
It all adds up to several players either not being wanted or not wanting us any more. With Eriksen for example if we had waved enough money in front of him a couple of years ago, he would probably have signed a new contract back then, I doubt he was thinking of running down his contract with 3 years left to go.
Levy won`t be prepared to offer Toby and JV long deals on bigger money at their age, as they are probably just past their prime. Those two players also know they can leave for free and fill their pockets next summer. They will be better off leaving for free than signing a short extension at Spurs.
I hope work is ongoing regarding replacements, surely we are making potential targets know we want them before January and next summer.
Levy has created this mess, it`s up to him to sort it out.

I disagree with keeping the same manager, but not investing in the right players for your team over 4 years is the problem as you've highlighted. The thing is, your team is easier to fix than United's so I wouldn't be too pessimistic.

Huh, disagree with keeping the same manager??
Your opening statement was that what went wrong was keeping the same guy and not improving the team, which would imply that you feel it was wrong to have kept Poch for this long and also not invest. That's how I took your first line. Sorry if that's wrong. So my reply was that I think you should keep the manager but the under-investment is where your club has gone wrong.
Keeping the same guys (players) and not improving the team properly is what I meant. Pochettino has done a great job overall considering his restrictions and our operating model.
We just have a tonne of short term thinking fans who want an immediate blame and finger pointed to someone without trying to understand why the manager might be in a difficult position.

Since Poch took over (4-5 years ago is it?), I expected Spurs to finish Champions in at least one of those seasons.
We have punched above our weight for the last few seasons
I’m fecked off with some of our fans on here spitting their dummy out just coz things are going wrong at the moment
I’ve seen some proper chit teams in my time and you gotta take the rough with the smooth
It was only a few months ago I was in Madrid watching us play in a champions league final ffs
Poch has been let down by the players we all know are under performing and don’t deserve the mugs wanting him sacked
I can accept losing but not players not putting a shift in.

Yep watching that performance at Brighton just highlights how the players are letting poch down
Our captain making another clanger in the first minute
That’s all they ever do mate is Make mistakes. Honestly sick of the sight of Spurs and our loser failure players. They never achieve anything. But Poch isn’t immune to criticism mate, when you factor in our godawful form the last 6 months and horrendous away record.
Fergi always brought in 2-3 players a year for this exact reason. Even when they were winning everything, adding new faces keeps the team fresh and stops everything stagnating.
We failed to do that for 2 years and now we're suffering.
Even now, we've only really added N'dombele and that was a direct replacement for Dembélé (all be it, being 9 months too late)...
Our recruitment is a total shambles.
