Most overrated United player?

I'd say they are as. They've already made the England side and comparison to past players has already been made in the case of Mount. And then take Rice. He's bring touted at 100m yet has achieved hardly anything in the game. They're being hyped up like Jones and Wilshere before them. These two are no longer young with potential. The others could go either way as they are young.

Pogba. It's not even close

Jones was someone seen with huge potential. Don't think he can be considered overrated as he was young then. People seem to be confusing overrated with young players having potential. Macheda and Wilson for instance has never been overrated, yet someone listed him. Chong isn't overrated, he a young player who some see as having potential. To list them is ridiculous.

They are overrated in that they were never as good as people thought / hoped they were.

Ian Storey Moore was not overrated, cracking player, unlucky to get an injury ending his career soon after joining us.

George Best didn't rate ISM much. Especially as he was touted as the (first of many) 'new George Bests'.

Which of course, he wasn't.

They played together, 'new' George Bests arrived after. I saw his debut. He was a very good player, and definitely not overrated.

Can't agree with that at all. I could just have missed the hype of course but if Wilshire and Jones were hyped to 10/10, Mount and Abraham are sitting at 2/10

Amongst the most overrated in my time, I’d include:

Sharpey
Anderson
Rafael and Fabio
Evra
Blind
Herrera

Amongst the most underrated:

Choccy
Ronny Johnsen
Park
Fletch
Wesley Brown
Carrick
Valencia
Smalling
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Disagree about Blind, Evra and Anderson.

Anderson was not rated by many

I don't think Evra was under or overrated, he was generally rated just right. A top left back, just a touch behind Cashley.

Blind has become Andrea Pirlo since he left. Plenty of people were shouting that he should’ve been our starting ball-playing DM without any evidence he’d be any good in the role.

I liked him at CB, but as far as I could see because he could pass a football, people got way overexcited about his potential in midfield.

I love Paddy Evra, and defensively he was sound. Nobody could question his loyalty or work ethic. Going forward, however, he was bobbins.

Anderson was very highly rated by many whilst he was still at the club. Despite his fitness levels, injuries and inconsistency on the ball, many thought he should’ve been a mainstay. He just wasn’t quite good enough,

Blind may have been underrated in his early days at the club.

Now he has become seriously overrated by many.

Blind is a decent player but don’t think anyone cried too much when he left. Don’t think he has the legs to be a top player.

He was never really used correctly, which was an issue.

Of the current crop it’s got to be pogba.

Not sure how Pogba is overrated seeing as he performs well below what he should and gets slated every game.

For me, it's because a lot of people talk about how he's our best player.

I don't think he is - I actually think he holds back other players with his lazy approach, in such a key area of the pitch.

posted on 14/10/19

He is our most talented.

Best currently is probably 1 off DDG, AWB or McTominay

posted on 14/10/19

Yes, talent is not everything - plenty of talented players who never hit the top of their game or indeed the game.

Blind was used at DM initially but then spent most of his time at CB and LB. He had limitations in each position but he could have been the type of DM who falls back into defence when the FBs made forward runs. I don't think many cried when he left but we've kept poorer players in the side.

Probably not, but I don’t think that’s the biggest problem with him.

Yeah fair enough. I don't watch United anything like as much as I'm sure you do but I still think he's miles better than everyone around him. Biggest problem I see is he gives away possession a lot but also is far more dangerous in terms of creativity than others.

To me playing him further up field and not expecting much in the way of defending would see him at least be the creative outlet United are desperately missing most of the time

Scruttocks (U19684)

Maybe - I just think he costs the team as much as he adds.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen him take the game by the scruff of its neck.

I'd actually go as far to say as I think a workhorse type player would probably contribute as much as him at the moment.
