I don't get it. Spurs had a young team but then didn't sign anyone, just kept hold of the young team. Who has mysteriously come in to make the average age older than it was a couple of years ago? Has there been signings we just haven't noticed?

It is fairly obvious that the squad has aged, the central defence is like creaking with a couple of 30 plus year olds now, and it is showing, 10 goals conceded in just four days, pretty well shows as a partnership Toby and Verts are past their sell buy date now. Both need to be replaced, if not now, certainly at the end of the season.

Time to integrate a younger central defensive partnership, may take a while, but it cannot be any worse surely than conceding that many goals over just two games. Probably time to bring in Sanchez and Foyth or failing that new players need purchasing.

the press starts with a high line, and our defence have never sat so deep and the gap between them and midfield is a total joke.

full backs more often than not are slow or completely out of position or both. toby and verts have certainly not shown what they are capable of recently but having played centre half myself, when your midfield is miles away and lazy/make poor defensive decisions and full backs are useless, you have no hope regardless of your ability as an individual

I’m sure you’d slot into the spurs back line with ease mate

In the first couple of years it's going to be young and you expect the age and gel into a team together over a few years. Then they are at their peak. That happened for you a couple of seasons ago.

"Spurs are now the fourth oldest team in the Premiership."

And you have NOTHING to show for it

I think most Spurs fans have bemoaned the lack of squad refreshing over the last few seasons.
Tbf they have tried to bring in youngsters like Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth, Oliver Skipp and Kyle Walker Peters, but none have really forced their way into the starting XI yet.

Squad refreshing involves bringing in some players who will go straight into the team or at least offer a serious challenge for a place not just youth expected to break into the team in future because youth players developing into top players is a matter of chance, more or less.

I've watched some of our "old boys" playing for Belgium and I have to say they are playing very well!
In fact Belgium have a very strong side...and I thought their opponents, Kazakstan could probably beat England.
No reason they can't play like this for Spurs....
except of course Spurs don't have such a strong other nine players to put alongside them!

Agreed. My point was that the players you mention isn't squad refreshing IMO.

No, they are youngsters they have tried to get into the team. Sanchez and Foyth are regulars at pretty high standard international teams though.

So you guys should be at the peak of your powers if we're judging the squad by the average age?

28 is peak years for a footballer.
