Super Ed indeed. You seem to support him no matter what. I'm not as critical as some on here, but to say his only role is to sign the cheque is bordering on delusion.
Who do you think appoints the manager for a start.

Ed deserves every bit of criticism he gets

Look at the state of the club

A fooking laughing stock with this clown at the helm for the last 6 years

52 - I dont support him o matter what.

Re signing the cheques I was talking only on the subject of transfers.

Oles says in this interview, he and Phelan get the final stand we know Judge does the negotiating, so what is left for Ed to do but sign the cheque?

It says it all when us rivals are happy for him to stay in his role

What specifically do you like about ed Irish?

posted on 17/10/19

Ed Woodward has been the man at the helm during a period where we've gone from League Champions to 6th place (or worse!). Getting one manager wrong is understandable but he keeps getting it wrong.

I wouldn't advocate banishing him from the club but I would suggest getting a football person in on the board that can help the manager.

Losing SAF will do that to a club

And who were these obvious candidates he overlooked in favour of Moyes, LVG, and Jose ?

Ed has tried a variety of different managers and styles, none of whom seem to be able to get a tune out of the players or take the club forward.

Thats when Ed needs to start looking at himself and the structure at the top of the club.

I don't see how anything will change there, turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

We've been through this before on here. Off the top of my head managers like Pep, Klopp, Conte, Ancelotti etc have been available as well as other managers that I probably don't know enough about. At the very least I'd have expected all of our managers to have a similar style. The fact they haven't suggests to me that our strategy has been short-term to say the least.

Klopp didnt want it and Ancelotti got the real job.

Like i say, it's easy throwing Ed under the bus but when you look at each major decision that has been criticised, you can see there is more to it.

Why didn't Klopp want it though? That's the question. Surely we could have tried to be more persuasive? Perhaps if we'd have stated it was a long-term project he'd have got on board? Too late now though obviously.

Pep didn't join City until 3 years after SAF retired. City did seemingly have a plan in place to get him in but I'm sure we could have appealed to his ego to join the biggest club in England and persuaded him?

"The money is there. We've been looking at players and we were close to a couple but it's not right if you don't get the right players. The money is there to strengthen in January and in the summer.

"We're planning and we're looking. We're refining our targets, but just before the summer transfer window ended, the ready-made players weren't there. But the resources are there if the right players are available."

This is one area that I'm with Ole in. No sense in trying to build the ideal team in one transfer window.

You end up panicking and with a bloated squad.

Take your time, find the right players. Fine with me.

Agree with that, but you also need to have a manager in place that can get the best out of what squad there currently is and I don't think Ole is showing he can do that.

This is why a real football man in the DOF should be, maybe even working with someone like Ole, to build the squad window by window, whilst still managing to maintain some level of competitiveness on the pitch.

What I am saying is, it doesn't matter what the managerial appointment is (right or wrong), the structure above them is set up to make it fail.

Why didn't Klopp want it though...it was supposedly presented to him from a business perspective rather than football... who does that sound like?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If that's the case then it doesn't surprise me.

Even back in 2013 there was information to hand to see that Klopp is a football romantic. United should have tried to sell the job to him as 'a chance to carry on SAF's legacy and create his own' rather than a business offer.

What you say is logical - I just disagree that we can draw that conclusion so early in the season.

He prefers an underdog rather than a financial super club.
