If it got to the point of WM refusing a s30 order after 2021 elections, then that's the only situation where I'd support a UDI, but I'd be very uncomfortable with it.

I also expect any 'illegal' referendum would be dealt with by Westminster in a similar way to the Catalan referendum by the Spanish, and that would be a disaster.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
UDI is the only plausible way out unless there is major change at Westminster.

I fear we are stuck unless she gets some big nuts on her soon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure I want to see tanks rolling into George Square for the first time in a 100 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The government wouldn’t need to do anything. We’d self destruct ourselves with unionists causing all the trouble as always.

Mind and take the RFC off your flags next time chaps. We don’t want football being involved in such tawdry affairs. Heaven forbid.

Would be a bit mental for them to react like that considering the responses to UDI's from countries previously in the Empire.

If there’s one thing that Brexit has shown it’s the utter contempt that many English people have for Northern Ireland and Scotland.

You are aware of what's going on in Catalonia at the moment?

And the British government did deploy tanks to quell what they thought was a socialist/communist uprising in Glasgow at the end of the first world war. They have history for it.

Nothing new in that to be honest. The last independence vote told us everything. All scuttled up the toad full of hot air and promises, got their wish and as quickly fwcked off again.

We were stunned

Talk about stuck in limbo. Don’t know where we are with Customs, Duties, Vat and on top of that no fecker wants us.

Been to 6 Brexit conferences in the last few months and wasting my time as no one had a clue what to advise.

The last conference was in the Titanic Centre which seems quite apt.

If it wasn’t for the border they wouldn’t.
______________________________

But they do have a border and the GFA which has to be respected.

Surely the Brexit vote was designed to remove the whole of the UK out of the EU, not just parts of it. Is N.Ireland part of the UK or not?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Like almost everyone; the NI situation wasn’t an issue until reality hit so in order to respect the referendum you have to compromise. This is a compromise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Leaving aside the fact that N.Ireland was an afterthought and how ridiculous that was, particularly from our governing parties, surely this compromise is creating such a situation that it both damages other parts of the Union (Scotland, Wales, most of England) while also jeopardising the Union by making a part of it 'different'?

Are we happy to cast adrift Northern Ireland for Brexit?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Conservative party members will be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’d cast it adrift for a multitude of reasons; Brexit being only one of them.

It’s not new, but just highlights it further.

It’s also funny when many of the same people promote the the UK’s “independence” but will happily destroy the union for no good reason.

I feel bad for the Scottish and Northern Irish people being dragged into this mess.

Yes but there are huge differences, the UK have sanctioned a referendum previously so have accepted the right of self determination, The Spanish have not.

I doubt we would see any move by the Army. The UK has taken UDI's on the chin previously.

I'm absolutely sick of it. This process should never have happened for many reasons, especially given the margin of 'victory' for Leave.

It plainly shown that the UK were pretty much split and still are. How is that grounds to make such a huge commitment?

The whole thing has been a farce and a disgrace to the UK. A truly shameful episode where one of the biggest votes in the union's history was decided by a wholesale pack of lies and driven by a fascist agenda in the media, with pretty much no one being happy with the end result, and potentially entire countries being shafted by it.

Again is that grounds for such a commitment?

It's been ill conceived and excecuted in the most inept and shameful manner, and irreperable damage could be done, including the breakup of the UK.

If no one had any clue of the ramifications of this it just simply shouldn't have happened. Westminster has shown it is incapable of managing the country, there is no adequate leadership and basically UK politics is f@cked.

Well done
