Pepe had a decent game tbh. Defence wasn't the problem either.
All players miss sitters. Pepe was far away from the problem tonight. He created the chance himself through great play ffs
Pepe was bought as a speedy winger who could score and create chances for Auba. He created one chance early on and missed a sitter because he can't use his right foot. I could understand if we'd paid £10m for him but we've used £72m of our meagre transfer budget on a one legged show pony. That's the issue. Our tight board are not going to sanction spending another £80m on Zaha are they?

I would urge caution on Pepe. Still early days under a manager that makes it difficult by not having a style and chopping and changing too often.
I think he’ll eventually come good, not 70m good but worthy of a place in the team.
Play Pepe in cup games and HOPE he discovers an end product. Right now, I'd rather see a 3 of Auba, Laca and Martinelli. Add Tierney and Torreira, and that is 5. Leno is automatic and I feel so should Holding be. The biggest conundrum is which 2 players start next to Torreira, who partners Holding and how long till Bellerin is fully fit.
But Emery has to complicate stuff.
He won't come good until he learns to use his right foot. When I coached my son to play football I made him practise kicking with two feet . He never made it at a high level but he can strike a ball and dribble with both feet. It's something which you can learn and improve on.
I think that Pepe needs a spell with the U23s to hopefully build up some confidence .He should have been a sub today and played the whole game on Thursday. Another epic selection fail by Emery.
I would play Martinez instead of Leno. Leno's distribution and cross handling are just awful at present.
He wasn’t really the problem tonight. He was contributed more than the other forwards. He did well against the press as well. He’s just always too deep when he gets the ball, it’s the same with both wingers. They’re always receiving ball to feet it in our own half. Only once was a decent ball played over the top for him and into space. The midfield move the ball ridiculously slowly
Pepe has been disappointing so far, but he basically has no midfield to give him it in dangerous areas. You see it with Auba and lacazette as well, they always drop deep to get involved. They shouldn’t need to do that as much as they do. The midfield is awful, that’s our main issue at the moment I believe.
Despite Wilf being beyond sh@te so far this season he still makes Pepe look second rate.
That takes some doing tbf.
You are very wrong I actually think Pepe had an excellent game tonight but no one to link with and the clueless manager took him off as soon as Lacazette came on blame the useless passionless manager not Pepe he will be WC if not already very composed player just needs to work on his right foot and finishing
Pepe was the least of our problems today.
I think it was plainly clear to everyone where the problem was.
Willock - 17 touches, 100% pass accuracy, 0 key passes.
Xhaka - 81 touches, 87.1% pass accuracy, 0 key passes.
Guendouzi - 112 touches, 90% pass accuracy, 0 key passes.
Ceballos - 56 touches, 90.2% pass accuracy, 0 key passes.
Basically 90 minutes of "Piggy in the middle" with no end product to speak of.
Blame the manager nothing to do with Ozil or Pepe
Maybe just maybe if Ozil plays, that will bring the best out of Pepe as Ozil is someone who can play a killer pass and create chances.
Pepe looks like a player who likes to run onto through balls using his pace. HE has the ability to take players on when 1v1.
Current setup means he picks the ball up with his back to goal and then had 2-3 defenders closing him down. This is why we look so chit when attacking and this was before we signed Pepe.
Emery Needs to play Ozil or Cebellos in all PL matches when fit. Maybe even play them both and see what magic they can bring. Both players are capable of playing inch perfect through balls.
Current crop of Guen/Willock and Xhaka couldnt play a through ball if their lives depended on it.
