Sheff U spent 43mill in the summer.

VOF.. I think too much is being put on 'how much spent'.. its about getting the right players.. and clubs/managers recognizing that.

Big Virg for Alisson for Liverpool cost 160 million total, but look how they have transformed them..

Villa's scatter gun approach in the summer I think will fall very short.

Manchester United spending an absolute fortune on players recently hasn't worked at all, in fact, their squad has gone backwards.

I remember a debate we had at the beginning of last season, where Leeds were in a negligible spend, but with a stronger squad.. some of our fans (mainly the usual leader of the doom merchants) were outraged, but I thought it was a good thing, and to be fair we got 3rd, as opposed to mid-table as per the previous season.

I think fans just want to see money being spent!

Until last week that included Spurs and United

Op has a point

They could quite easily lose 3 or 4 on the bounce and get dragged into the relegation fignt. Spurs, Man U, Everton, West Ham aint going to where they are, even Watford when Deeney gets back should climb up to the low middle. Like the above said, the bubble is fine atm, but like Hudds, probably will burst next season. Norwich are a pathetic excuse for a premier league side. Getting promoted and spending just 1.5 on a back up right back and losing 2 nil at home in a six pointer.

How much did Leicester spend when promoted?..

Might be more than I thought considering I don't remember them spending Billions!..

Wilder is a canny manager and has developed a good squad full of "honest" pros (age old line from commentators!), is my view of it.

Whereas that mollusc managing Villa had all the advantages last season, but only managed to get his side up through the play offs.

I think most sides if honest, when first promoted to the prem, are looking to consolidate/survive … then hopefully build and sustain from there.

To be fair, we may need a top quality keeper to replace Casilla if he get found guilty; a top quality CB to replace Cooper and/or White when he goes back to Brighton; a top quality creative mid to replace Hernandez and a top quality striker to push Bamford. If McBurney went for 20 million during the summer and we signed Costa for 15m, we could argue that spending 60 million in Jan would not only give us the boost needed for serious automatic promotion contention and at the same time establish a new spine for the team under Bielsa, before he too moves on!

More wishful thinking - but with rumours of Qatari investment swirling, who knows?

Wonder what Orta's doing at the moment?

I doubt we're going to spend much in Jan, indeed, unless we get promoted, not sure how we're going to fund Costa without more sales. Interesting that some pundits already saying they're not sure if Bielsa will be backed in Jan.

The loanees will be costing us a pretty penny and obviously need replacing in summer, if we do go up, we will have to spend a lot.

I'm not we need to spend £100m. I'm not sure we'll reach the promised land this season either....

Three or four good players; two permanent & two loanees. We have quality coming through the ranks which, if blooded at the right time with good experienced players would work well for us.

"I'm not sure that we"

posted on 11/11/19

Looking at the squad, very few are sufficient quality to keep us up there, a poor Man Utd beat us easily down under, granted we were under strength and had landed only just prior to the game but still. If we rely on who we have, assuming we go up, we will be down before we know it.
As for Stevie's assertion that with the careful blooding of a few kids we will be stronger, I think that's slightly delusionary. Gotts, Davis, Stevens, Bogusz, Shackleton, McCalmont, McKinstry all reasonable but not sure they are a conveyor belt of talent.

Again I have to make the comment that people obviously don’t understand how Bielsa works, unless we have serious injury problems we probably won’t sign anyone, he does all his work pre-season

Hasn’t Gotts been on bench nearly 30 times but not yet actually come on fur a first team match?

How are these young players going to get blooded exactly?

posted on 11/11/19

Exactly like this.. 30 games left in the league, FA Cup to come.. maybe a start or two? - Shacks, Davies already in the process of blooding in aren't they?

The young guns will get a chance with the squad we have... If we had Roofe, Gotts wouldn't get anywhere near would he?

Of the ones mentioned above Robbie is the one I have most hope for, he will eventually get his chance, I am sure of that.

posted on 11/11/19

Not sure why Gotts wouldn't get near if we had Roofe, different positions surely. Hernandez and Costa are an obstacle to him getting a start.
Gotts is a Bielsa type player, he can play in more than one position. Not sure he can lead the line mind.

Odd the way this team,(Bielsa's team!)is always torn apart, we're third in the table, have the best so called defense in the division, and holding our own against the so called better buying clubs!..

We almost made it last season, but, ending the way it ended wasn't down to the season, it was down to players that the most off were with us the season before doing that bit better and making it a great season but just falling short in the run in!..

Or you could blame the last game and mistakes made by some off the more experienced players!..

At this moment this team are doing a great job and there is nothing to say if they are one of the ones to throw a run together they cant better last season!..

Oh, and we could have the best players in this division but its a known thing around the Leeds board it still wouldn't be good enough!..

And lost both cups early and threw away a decent lead at the top including a 2 goal lead in the playoffs. Last season was frigging disaster show.
