Handball

Many in the game believe greater clarity is needed for referees when it comes to handballs, therefore the IFAB has re-worded a number of rules.

It stresses that a deliberate handball remains an offence but that the following scenarios will result in a free-kick even if accidental:

if the ball goes into the goal after touching an attacking player’s hand or arma player gains control/possession of the ball after it touches their hand/arm and then scores, or creates a goal-scoring opportunitya ball touches a player’s hand/arm which has made their body unnaturally biggerthe ball touches a player’s hand/arm when it is above their shoulder (unless the player has deliberately played the ball which then touches their hand/arm)

The VAR was wrong in not giving a penalty to Everton. VARs are human and can make mistakes.

Dermot Gallagher:
“I expected a penalty to be given and the reason why is this season if the hand is above the shoulder and it strikes the ball, you give a penalty. It is above the shoulder, there is no doubt about that,”

To be fair, I’ve just looked on the FA web site and I can see what you’re saying - that would certainly make me wrong.

Have you read the statement about the Alli incident? That’s what I was basing my comments on.

Massive contradiction there.

even when they take 4 minutes doing it, it seems

The comment I found pretty ridiculous. They basically said because Alli was trying to push the Everton player in the back it was okay

This is why Riley and Swarbrick can say VAR is working, because it is them who decide what is a VAR error and what isnt.

Have you got it...

Unless there is a reason why his hands are above his head..(& the fact that he's jumping doesn't allow for this) it's handball under the current rules

Yeh, I was wrong about the current rule.

Surprised at that change and think it’s another bad move, aimed at pacifying those who want everything to be black and white, but typical of the people running football now.

Confused at the Alli justification though and either they are lying or the law is written so badly that it makes it seem like that.

Oliver is probably the best.

You'd say that though , wouldn't you? I honestly think he wears a Liverpool shirt underneath his ref shirt when he's officiating at Anfield

I don't
