I fullbacks ain't great and there are issues elsewhere but the team is way better than the results they have been getting.

although i agree with the principle of the full backs, thought TAA was shocking yesterday. Chilwelll(hangover) fantastic on the hand.

comparing the sides Ndombele when he gets going and Toby would be the only ones who would also get in the England team. England defensive midfield and central defence is pretty rubbish, where we will be unstuck against the big dogs.

So many options now for england up front.

AMs in Mount and Maddison

Front 3 options of Kane, Rashford, Sterling, Sancho, Hudson Odoi, Abraham..

Southgate is simply doing what should be expected with a decent group of players. I think he's lucky to have come in to managing England when he did as we have some very talented youngsters and don't have any of the underperforming Golden Generation anymore. Honestly I think Hodgson would be doing just as well with England right now.

Hodgson went into the 2016 Euros with absolutely no clue what his preferred team or even formation was, despite having been in charge for years. Those friendlies before the tournament were a mess and the lineups in the tournament games seemed like guesswork. We were pretty bad to watch and got found by iceland.

It couldn't be more different from the Southgate era. There's a system and formation, the players in form largely play, players seem to actually care and want to play for him, it's enjoyable to watch, he disciplines when he needs to, he can handle the media, there are no egos...

I mostly like Hodgson and he's a good man to have in football, but he was hopelessly out of his depth managing England. Southgate got lucky but he has absolutely taken that opportunity with both hands, made the team his own and is doing brilliantly.

Don't think Hodgson would have been anything like as progressive as Southgate has been as far as promoting young players

Fair play to the FA.... GS was the perfect hire at the right time. The England team had become old & stale. The strength was at youth level & Southgate had been a big part in its development. It was the obvious hire but with the FA nothing is ever simple. Consider they had big Sam in charge before

He also came into the right toime when you have Pep, Poch and Klopp playing similar formations and style of football with a good crop of young English players learning from likes of Pep and Klopp.

Add in what Lampard is doing at Chelsea then he really is managing England at a great time.

Don't agree re Hodgson. That guy was a baffoon. Never forget pre 2016 we played Germany and Spain and he tested out the youngsters and we played really well. Then euro 2016 came and he dropped the youngsters, squeezed in Rooney and the old guard and had Kane taking corners and playing on the wing ffs

We were found out by the quality teams at the World Cup and have the nice draw to thank for getting as far as we did.

The team he has to work with is much fresher and younger. You can argue he's got a good team spirit with them but do you not think if Hodgson or anyone else was in charge they wouldn't be giving these players a go either? They pretty much pick themselves. Even Southgate was picking Hart too long though until his club form made him droppable. And that makes me think he'd be struggling with those from the GG as much the other managers. Luckily for him the failing GG had disappeared by the time he took over with young fresh faces and good forward options.

It's not like Hodgson wasn't walking these qualifying groups too, and he actually has a higher win percentage than Southgate.

We'll see when the next tournament comes how well we do against the decent teams, but it could work in Southgate's favour yet again that there are going to be home games in the later stages.

Yes Hodgson was shiiit no question but I do think Southgate has had things a lot easier, and yes you're right in that the players are benefiting from very good coaching right now at club level. Look at the Sterling Hodgson had to work with compared to one Southgate is working with.

You do realise arsenal women are one of the most decorated womens football teams and the Tottenham women are a relatively new outfit.
