central defence and central midfield are problems

I think Ox is rightly or wrongly nailed on

Mount and Maddison will fight for the most attacking of the 3

Winks henderson and rice will fight for the deepest

Unfortunately can't see anyone else really getting a look in

Maguire is nailed on to start too under southgate

Hopefully Gomez regains form or Tomori gets more of a look in, stones and keane aren't good enough

How about that John McGinn at Villa or Scott McTominay at United? They are two of the best midfielders in the Prem.

Maddison and Mount > Grealish

The 10s coming through are pretty exciting

It's the DMs and the B2B players that are concerning

Barring injuries I would say that Sterling, Kane, Chilwell, Pickford and Maguire are dead certs to start come the Euros. Those are the only ones I'm pretty sure Southgate is going to play. I suspect he'll go with TAA too given what he's doing at Liverpool and him being a youngster.

Henderson does not want to play deep anymore. Number 6 will either go to Winks (hopefully) or Rice (Overrated).

Hendo will take the right side spot meaning Ox or Mount will get other slot.

Too late for Grealish and Madison has other issues.

I don't think henderson has the kind of power to decide where he plays seeing as he isn't even a nailed on starter, if he wants to play he'll need to play deeper

Don't know why we don't try Stones as a deep lying midfielder. That might better suit his strengths and weaknesses.

He's never looked good there for city

Certainly seems to be the area that many teams struggle with these days.. Arsenal and United certainly, and Spurs not exactly flush in there.

How Klopp does as well as he does with Henderson, I'll never know.

Certainly a problem area.

I wonder how RLC would get on if he could stay fit. He has always looked very good to me.

I forgot about RLC. He was doing very well for Chelsea before his injury.

When fit he always plays and recently it has been Rice sitting and Hendo on the right.

Rice and Dier should never ever play with Henserson.

Id go with Henderson, Winks and Mount myself.

Southgate has gone away from that because of how poor that midfield has looked

Is what he will play

taken apart with ox in mf? i seem to remember him doing alright vs City when we knocked them out and the CL campaign in general until injury vs Roma... He was arguably Englands best player over both games too and hes been getting back to form recently. Asbolutely no reason or evidence to be saying we'd be taken apart with him in mf..

Whichever three you pick, it's weak for an International side with designs on reaching the latter stages.

Shame, but hopefully players like Winks will develop into top players.

Klopps had a mf 3 of hendo ox and milner/wij working well with a front 3 no reason southgate couldn't biggest issue would probably be Kane hes no Bobby.

Looking at it i think Klopp would be well happy with the England squad.

Sterling and Sancho could emulate similar styles to Salah and Mane, TAA and Chillwell can be similar to Liverpools fullbacks too Chillwell was our target before deciding on robbo. Apparently maguires a ball playing cb that cost more than VVD? and Gomez along with tomori probably the most talent defenders we have.

id try mount or winks in mf, mount has work rate and pressing and winks overall is solid probably most similar to wijnaldum.

Id love to hear someone ask Klopp about the England squad he'd cream and go WOW. Probably call Hames Milner back up mind

Chilwell has nowhere close to the end product that Robertson has though so we can't get away with such a bland midfield

So, he played well vs City in 2018, is reason enough to put him in the centre of Englands midfield

He didnt start vs City last time and when he did come on it was for Firmino, which has been the pattern in the league games since returning.

I didnt think he did well vs Kosovo and despite a very smart finish vs Czechs, not that impressed with his contribution there either.

Problem i see is that his strengths are all further up the pitch. When England face a quality team, we will inevitably be doing a lot of chasing and defending, looking to counter attack. This situation compounded by having defensive weakness behind the CMs.
