New contract for Pablo.....

GOAT

Take him to 36 which is quite old but gives him a couple of years in the PL which he deserves.

He's earned it

So he will be 37 by the end of his contract.

Personally it's another 'one year too many' contract for me...

He has been arguably one of our best players in recent memory but I think he will be struggling to make an impact by the end of this deal.

Crazy length

AGAIN

Some people are never happy! It's no secret Pablo wants to end his career at his home club so the deal was probably that he'd leave asap unless he got a decent-length contract. That doesn't mean he'll be with us till 2020 but I for one would love to see him do his stuff in the Prem league - it's where he belongs.

Have to say he had very limited impact yesterday, maybe it was because he was playing with people he doesn't normally play with and the U23's is a little less cultured.
I think we have a gem in Pablo but fear we will see him less and less as he ages. Think he will have limited impact in the Premier League.
That said would rather have him at the club than not and see nothing wrong with him having an extended contract.

For past 9 months he’s either been out of form or injured.

It’s crazy. I don’t know what it is with club wanting to get too long a deals for players.

Nobody complained complained about phillips getting a long deal, because it’s the right thing.

But Dallas and cooper getting 3.5 and 4.5 year deals.

It’s madness

I do not feel comfortable with the length of contracts being handed out. With the exception of Phillips, who will get better and will become captain, there is no justification for what we are doing. We were o'kaned with contracts before and we still haven't learned our lesson.

And Murphy pal

My personal opinion is that it is too long.

However......, tying down your "assets" for the long term might just be the prelude to a sale.

Any worthwhile purchaser will, no doubt, have the capacity to pay those unwanted players off at a time of their choosing.

Just a thought.

Pablo is no asset, he’s 34

Your going to have to explain that to me. Make zero sense

Alan Peacock signing 5 year deal tomorrow

Absolutely nothing wrong with Pablo deal, could quite easily go into a player/manager role or a coach at the club. Last season he was the only player in this league to hit double figures for goals AND assits. He is an asset still.

I could understand it if it was transferring into a coaching role during that final season.

But I've not seen anything from him that suggests he will be moving into coaching.

If he signed a contract of that length and part of it was we put him through his coaching badges with the understanding that because of his age he is likely to be used very sparingly in that final season but will spend time working on his badges and learning the role of a coach I could understand it, but otherwise it's too long a deal

Could take over the U23's? Pablo and Coberan the next Cowley brothers

Most of those players signing 3-, 4- and 5-year deals will end up being sold to other clubs early anyway so what's the problem?

posted on 19/11/19

Seems too long given his age and recent injury issues.

posted on 19/11/19

By far the best player we have had for years but not this season and he is on the downward slope age and injury wise. Just don't get this new contract at all.

Another awfully long deal.
We are building a very good championship side for the next 5 years. Maybe the intention is to just keep us near the top and selling out the tickets.
These players become unsellable like others before.
On too much money for majority of championship teams to take on and not good enough for majority of premier sides so only a handful of potential buyers.

Looking at the squad, I would say very few are of Premier League ability, right to have tied down the likes of Kiko, Cooper, Phillips and Klich to long contracts and if we can get Forshaw fit enough, long enough, he can cut it in the Prem, I would love
Harrison and White to sign on permanents and they would make good squad additions. Most of the rest on a permanent contract are at their natural level and will need replacing should we go up. Long contracts for these guys will cost us in the future.

Smacks of a club with not enough money to afford replacement.

No they wont.

They will end up going out on loan, or sitting injured.

While out on loan we will probably still be contributing to at least a portion of their wages.

Unless someone is going to either match or better their current wage, when they are all 2 years older and in their 30s then they wont leave, and to be honest why should they.

Nail on the head there Jonty. Pleased for Pablo as he merits looking after given his great service so far, under all the managers he's played for, and hopefully will continue to contribute to the club's promotion campaign.

However, the long contracts for lesser contributors plus the dead wood plus the loans policy which is undoubtedly expensive means we won't be signing anyone much in January. If a big money buyer does not come in by the end of this season, the business end may become unsustainable next year.

We can only hope Pablo kicks on, avoids injury, generates some of those sublime moments like the assist for Dallas at the start of the season which in turn inspire and uplift the squad.

Not looking good though, is it?

Other news, can't believe Spurs have dumped Poch only to replace with Mourinho. That can't be good for business, surely?

**** off Jonty do you ever stop peddling tripe? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

He's been a little wizard and carried this team. Without him, we create very little.

2 year deal for a 34 year old though? A year would have been enough.
