It's completely wrong and of course the whole perception needs changing, but it is how it is in large parts of Italian society. The fact someone is black won't be an issue, but it will be used as a reference or description where over here it wouldn't be dreamed of.

one of my closest friend who is italian explained this to me too. being black is not seen as sacriligious in italy as it is in the UK and elsewhere. It is fair game as much as being tall, slim, fat, bald or ginger etc.
Initially, I was out raged that it was deemed ok to insult someone by weaponising the colour of their skin. I know understand what he means although I still think it is wrong

New York has passed a law that recognises 31 gender types and allows people to sue you if you do not address them as Cat or Doormat or Peniscunt. Its gone way beyond crazy.

Why do you need to mention their race and mention it? There is much racism and hate towards people who are not white in Europe and clear discrimination. It’s seen as inferior by many to not be white in Europe. It stems from hate

Racism is being derogatory, offensive or singling out ethnic minorities because of there race. How's is making an accurate observation any of that??
It's no different to saying that Man, Women, Tall guy, Short guy, Ginger guy, stocky guy, hot women etc etc
How can we have inclusion and equality when its a crime to mention a skin colour as a reference.
There is no need to mention the skin colour reference of any player.
The match tomorrow night involves 22 starting onfield players - some of which are of different nationalities, and ethnicities. So why the need to single out two players who happen to be of black origin?
We all know their skin colour, but it doesn’t need to be made into an attention seeking headline to sell news.
Why couldn’t the journalist mention something along the lines of ‘The Red Devils reunion match’ instead?
I’m glad that some folk in Italian society has denounced this. As I know that not all of Italian society is like this.

Add in the history of black people in the world and what's been happening recently in Italy and its not that simple. This should be pretty obvious tbh.
Do tall people have a centuries old history of discrimination and monkey chants and sheet?
Didn't think so. Let's not pretend its just a normal thing. This kind of rationale is either looking for excuses to be a caaaant/racist or just plain ignorant about the world around you.
