Is this the only way the Premier League / FA would do something about racism?

But they do do something about racism!

They find them and they prosecute them, what else would you like done?

Which are the black players? I only see people as people and not by the colour of their skin so wasn't even aware that there were players with different coloured skin. Please praise me.

Clearly they don't do enough and whatever they do its not working. Culprits are not always identified, usually just one or two, if any.

Perhaps more cameras will help. We have CCTV in every nook and cranny of a lot of major cities and yet the top level of the game cannot surveil sections of the crowd in premier league games.

There’s only so much that can be done. It’s still only a tiny minority of people who do things like this. If they get identified then they’re dealt with. It’s not possible to catch every single crime, be it race or anything else.

The football authorities get plenty wrong, but I believe they genuinely want to address issues such as racism and do what they can realistically do.

I think that we cannot accept that there is only so much people can do.

if there were three separate appeals to stop then spurs should be fined at least 1mil and they should have stadium closed for a game.

no offense to spurs this is more a general point.

if you make the punishment so harsh that the 98% of non abusive fans will turn on the 2% or whatever and make sure their antics don't start in the first place.

2% of 61,000 is 1220. 0.01% is 6 people, so you’re suggesting a stadium ban for a minute amount of people doing something that might happen once or twice a season. That’s not going to stop individuals doing these things.

It’s should be at least £20m if fans of your club are found to be racist. Especially in the PL with the money involved in it.

Stadium bans? Losing a home fixture? Transfer bans?

Something needs to be done now where it will hurt both the fans and the team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now you’re being ridiculous. No matter what sanctions you place on the club you won’t stop individuals doing this. The figures are so low that all you can do is keep flushing out the individuals, and giving them life bans and prosecuting them. I’m guessing most do this in the heat of the moment, it’s not pre meditated. It’s still unacceptable of course but the threat of punishment to the club won’t stop them in the first place.

it'll encourage people to isolate the types that go and have stewards remove them immediately.

imo we can no longer entertain the notion that the majority can do nothing about these people.

if people sit back and let it happen then it will happen. the punishment should be so harsh that club fans should turn on the perpetrators the second they start.

if you lost your next 2 home games or your club lost points would you not kick the muck out of whoever rather than let them continue.

3 warnings???? ridiculous.

it's a better rule than no rule but I just don't think its harsh enough at all.

People don't understand racism. A lot of people need proper education to fully get rid of the prejudice. High proportion of people still have racial prejudice in them (kind of suppressed) which naturally comes out during high tension or drunken situations.

I don’t even think every person who does these things are racist. They’re committing a racist offence, but like you say it’s when they’re highly stressed. Today, it was aimed at the player they believed responsible for getting Son sent off and they were taking their frustration out on him. They basically lose control of themselves and their senses. That’s why punishing the clubs won’t resolve the issue.

true.

we all have to be aware of this.

I've never understood why English fans have a problem with players' skin colour. Just doesn't make sense to me but I understand that the culture is very different down there. Doesn't mean I agree with your approach though.

When racist acts take place in such situations, the publicity afforded by the TV cameras can be at times, especially with the amount of countries all over the world taking in the EPL, run into millions and millions, thereby embarrassing us all, our clubs, the EPL itself, the country, the full whack. We are, as individuals and a country, humiliated. There’s no other word for it.

Solution? Cameras all round, please don’t quote HR, it doesn’t work here, perpetrators identified, and where the evidence is there, charged, hopefully convicted, same as before.

The difference sought? Punishment, big time. Prison, undoubtedly, but far longer than a couple of weeks or even months. + ‘publicity of the idiot who did it, banned forever from ALL sports arenas, passport surrendered, reporting to police when the national team plays abroad.

The sad thing is that in a few weeks this incident will be forgotten and the Premier League & FA will move on. In a month or so it will happen again, and the racism debate will start again ...

Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate. Some people will say they aren't racist but suddenly turn racist as soon as they get into an argument with a minority. I'll give you an example. On my way to work the other day I saw an argument between a white guy and a Southern Asian looking guy. They both spoke clear English, however the Asian guy had a bit of an Asian accent. The white guy (who had a council uniform) kept repeating.. "can you say that in English" to the Asian guy.

Racism is a problem for all of society, not just football. When the country now has a leader that openly says racist things then what do you expect. Every racist has free reign now, and it will only get worse.

Yes, I've said as much before.

Its unfair on the decent fans but there seems to be no other option.

I think we can agree that the only solution to racism in the stands is if fans become the police.

Why just black players?

A Chelsea supporter has been arrested after racially abusing #thfc forward Heung-min Son during Sunday's clash - he was reported by members from the away support. | @Guardian_Sport
