Thought Willian was superb yesterday, surprised he’s out of contract in the summer.

It's a dominant system to use vs. a 4231 that doesn't attempt to press the back 3. Conte's 16/17 season in a nutshell. It won't work every game, was a horses for courses masterstroke.

Definitely a system I like. Feel we can use it more often as it can surprise the opposition.

A lot of our players look suited to it:

CBs were excellent, aggressive and brilliant in the aerial battles vs Kane who hardly featured all game. They look a lot more reassured at the back, we also played it vs Wolves and looked very comfortable.

We all know Alonso struggles at LB but he's far better at LWB and was really good yesterday. Emerson could also fit in the system quite easily. Azpi was also fine at RWB but can easily play in the back 3 if required as RJ offers more going forward.

Kante looked a lot more at home yesterday and was a much more improved performance. Kova was excellent as always, him & Kante worked well together.

Mount & Willian were the top performers though, excellent in the pockets and caused Spurs problems all game. No reason why Pulisic & CHO cannot benefit playing in that front 3.

Tammy also led the line really well, held the ball up nicely and worked tirelessly.

Hope we can reproduce these type of performances now and go on a decent run.

Back three used yet attacking principles wasn't sacrificed or compromised, still in complete control (of possession) and managed to press high for the duration of the match (remimiscient of Jody's very successful academy sides).

Absolutely knew Frank would be flexible and adapt formations game by game this season, when you've got tactics heavily influenced by Jody.
Jody' tactical acumen undervalued, Frank could not have got a better right-hand man.
Jody especially will savour that victory against Jose and deservedly so

Nothing like a Conte system, where it was largely more focused on defensive team shape, counter attacking and backs-to-the-wall performances.

Jose didn't prepare to combat this set-up, they were completely flummoxed.
Week preparation would have been for 433 & 4231.

it when a curveball plan comes together.

We've shown that we can control the tempo and go toe to toe against reigning Champions City, CL Semi-finalist Ajax and CL winners Liverpool twice, went on an unprecedented club run of away wins, and run of scoring 3+ goals consecutively.
Achievement & implementation even better given injured players.

Extraordinary progress in 5 months and more to come.
This type of progress only tends to happen years down the line (with signings).
Cannot wait for Bayern.

Solid 8 out of 10 season thus far, all things considered.

It was especially pleasing as we had not won against any of the top teams so far this season. We had played well against Liverpool (twice) and Man City, but kept losing anyway. I bet this did the team’s confidence a world of good - absolutely justifies everything Lampard tells them. Now we have to try to build some consistency and beat lower placed teams too, like West Ham, Bournemouth, Everton etc.

Spurs were awful yesterday, a pub team could have beaten them. I would not get to carried away.

We didn't really have a problem breaking down the low-block sides and creating high volume of chances against them (six game winning-run beating the likes of Watford, Newcastle, Palace etc was testament to that), up until recently.

Not beyond the realms of a possibility that we go on another winning run. My only gripe is the team not clinical enough in converting chances.

Tactically Lampard’s best game for us

Hands down

Uncovered a bit of a weakness in Mourinho's tactical arsenal too. He really isn't keen on playing the 4231 aggressively & against a 343 (a good one) you kind of have to or overloads happen all over the pitch.

He'll have to change it up if we play this vs. Spurs again later this season. We're not as reliant on one or two players as we were under Conte, so strategic man marking won't bail him out again.
