Things will become much more clear for Arteta by the end of the season.

Managers do seem to love xhaka. Wenger, Emery and now arteta

That's Arteta doomed to failure then

To be fair, he might just be saying what he needs to say to get through this season with the players behind him.

I’d expect big changes in the next 3 transfer windows.

Good for Arteta. Try to improve him. Xhaka has seen out 3 managers at Arsenal. He'll just add Arteta to the hit list.

Maybe but he's already making it very hard for himself by backing Xhaka - the fans (who've had to watch him stink out the midfield for years) know he's awful, Arteta if wanting/needing to use him should do so quietly rather than throwing it in peoples faces.

Xhaka isn't good enough, statements like this mock the fans.

It was obvious when Emery didn't drop Xhaka even after that Brighton Penalty last season that cost us top 4, that Xhaka is very political and controls the dressing room. All that voting for a captain confirmed it. The players not condemning Xhaka's actions immediately afterwards just added to it. Arteta is just playing Xhaka's game. But I agree its dangerous with the fanbase. Arteta should first concentrate on getting the fans back to the players side.

However the only thing that really matters is winning. But if Arteta doesn't then he is digging a hole for himself.

Xhaka must be sold in January

posted on 26/12/19

Given that Xhaka is clearly a big figure/influence in the dressing and is a very poor player, getting him out in January should be top priority.

If he was just a poor player but had little influence it wouldn't be so crucial.

Big big from me to all of you.

What else is he going to say. "Xhaka is not good enough?" he is trying to build a positive culture and mentality. That means involving every player for now not creating immediate divisions. Come on, use some of that grey matter

Don't say anything at all. Worst thing he can do is make the same mistakes both Wenger and Emery did

‘Everyone starts with a clean slate’ so why would anyone be surprised by Arteta’s words here?

It might also have nothing to do with him relying on Xhaka at Arsenal, and merely that he’s trying to positively boost the perception of his worth as a player in order to help maximise any potential transfer fee we’d get for him.

Honestly people, stop melting down about every little thing!

Positive vibes, and all that 🙂

Nah fack that. History exists, it's a slap in the face to pretend otherwise

Arteta is such an unknown quantity, lex. I think you can forgive us all for being a little antsy.

I don't care who plays. I will only judge Arteta by the results and he shd be given a chance to prove himself. Nothing will stop me from going to matches and cheering on the team. This doom-mongering is ridiculous and won't help anybody.

Fans care, some including myself just hate to see the same obvious mistakes being repeated.

Some fans have a deluded support at all costs mantra which can be admirable but the day that happens to me is the day I truly don't care about the club any more

No one can doubt that, for the money we paid for him, Xhaka has been one of the worst Emirates era signings Arsenal have made. However if Arteta looks at him and can genuinely see some hope of improving him, then fair enough.

Arteta himself was hardly given the most complimentary players at Arsenal to bring out his own talent. Maybe he sees the solution to our midfield problems elsewhere?

posted on 26/12/19

I used to say it as a joke, but seriously, Xhaka must have something big on someone high up at the club, maybe a Kronke. They then tell the managers he has to play and they have to publicly praise him. For millions in salary they toe the line. Maybe Arteta agreeing to that is why it was him who got the job.

posted on 26/12/19

Thing is, if Arteta looks at Xhaka and thinks he can improve him/improve Arsenal with him as an integral part of the team then he's almost certainly made a bad mistake. One that completely facked his predecessors.

No point just accepting it as fine because he's new to the job, it's a very blatant error of judgement and a huge misread/ignorance of the situation at the club

You lot have lost it

Talk about hysteria. As has been said, what else his he meant to say? "Nah Xhaka's whack, so I'll not be using him. Gonna flog him next week so he can't get me sacked too." Just not gonna happen, is it. Nor should it.

He has actually summed up Xhaka's Arsenal career accurately. Particularly the last bit about fan support. If he can fix the issue on the pitch, Xhaka could well become one of the clubs most loved players. Many appreciate the fact that he is still willing to put the shirt on and give his all, despite a ridiculous amount of scapegoating and unwarranted abuse.

Don't be so sure that Arteta can fix that Xhaka on the pitch issue. Think about it and that particular problem is the one MF issue Arteta should be a pure expert on. It's the exact same one that Wenger lumbered him with. Being played in a DM role you can't do. Arteta was far more twinkle toed and quicker. So could get out of trouble many times where Xhaka is unable to. So Arteta looked a weak DM as opposed to Xhaka's shocking. Both individuals however, suffer/ed the exact same problem. One that Arteta should know how to solve in a heartbeat. I think you can all at least rest easy in though thought that Xhaka's DM days are over. I suspect Arteta will use him in the role which caught the PL's eye.

How comes nobody blames Ozil for getting people sacked?

He failed to perform for Wenger, worse than any other player and singlehandedly blew the CL for Emery, the team and the fans, by failing to perform again. Yet NONE of you here blaming Xhaka for their sackings ever have this kinda sh!t to say about Mesut.

Ozil has also come with the double whammy of costing so much, he prevented the signing of others. If you are going to start apportioning individual player blame to managers getting sacked. Then without question, Ozil is at the top of the list of players to blame.
