I hope not, but I fear you're right. One change, even a big one, doesn't fix everything. Arteta will need a lot of backing in January if things are to really change.

Im seriously starting to suspect they just drop a subtle question into the interview process on Xhaka to see how the new manager will deal with Xhaka, he has some sort of evil hold over the club.

There were a load of top flight clubs from various leagues, all interested in signing Xhaka. He wasn't playing in a DM role at the time. So to hear that Arteta wanted to sign him back then too, should come as no surprise to people. Shouldn't be held against Arteta at all either. We paid what we did because all or most of the top club scouts were thinking along the same lines, at the time.

If anything it’s an endorsement of Arteta because they didn’t buy him. I think they went for Gundogan even though he’s permanently injured.
