I always bring up Fergie and always get shot down with the cry " The game's moved on".
Whatever that has to do with managerial success rates.
But it took him years to achieve success.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was successful in a more relevant league before United - and came second in his second season in England too.
Well yeah that’s what I’m saying. I’m questioning the notion that short term thinking is in and of itself a bad thing. There’s an obsession about long term, but I fond it quite arrogant to assume that United can just completely disregard the short term for the long and think that’s the only way it’ll be able to improve.
Even more so when you consider the club can’t actually get things right when trying to think short term. What makes people think that something more difficult to achieve is more likely under this ownership?

Changing your mind about a manager twice in the space of 12 months is short term, impatient thinking.
Try and justify it all you like - it badly lacks credibility.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When the shocking run that has happened since I wanted him to be hired has happened it’s not short term thinking at all. It’s a sign that we may well have hired someone out of his depth.
Let me ask people this - if people knew the run that was to come after he was hired, would people still have wanted him hired?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is short term thinking.
Eddie Howe had a shocking run a couple of years ago - Bournemouth were in the relegation zone and the media sniffed a sacking. The club stuck by him and they did really well.
Tough times happen, particularly when the squad is being overhauled off the back of a terrible period for the club. Reacting to a relatively poor period of less than a season is not helpful, not sensible and credible.
It’s also true that this isn’t about wanting Ole or whether any of us believe he’s the best man for the job.
He has the job.
You’ve made your feelings known but he’s not going anywhere unless the club decide otherwise.
For me, it’s about trying to find the positives and back him and the team as much as possible, rather than whinging and calling for him to be sacked over and over again.
But I’ve said all this to you before. It goes in one ear and out of another.

It's simpler even than this. If we consistently miss out on CL football, it's damaging for the club. It just is.
Moyes was sacked the day after CL football became mathematically impossible; Van Gaal was treated more ruthlessly, his FA Cup win counting for nothing; and who knows what might have happened to Mourinho had we lost the Europa League final in Stockholm?
We don't know exactly what targets Solskjaer was set, but I have a feeling he'll go the same way, if or when we fail to qualify this season.

I dont disagree with your general point. But in the context of this specific argument, i just dont see the immediate sacking of Ole as being beneficial to us.
Be it an option between that, and waiting until the summer when maybe a more suitable target might is more likely to become available, I would choose the latter.
Clockwork, yep that’s likely the case. It’s unacceptable for a club the size of United to keep missing out on the CL. My only hope is that eventually the owners will see just how big an impact Woodward is having on this being so common and fack him off. But I won’t hold my breath.

Because I’m demonstrating that taking one part of a season and using that to determine whether a manager should keep his job is flawed.
I’m comparing the two individuals or the situations - just the idea that half a season is a long enough period of time to come to the conclusion that a manager should be sacked.

Fair enough, I think I'm pretty much in agreement with you there although I dont really see the need for an interim unless Ole loses the dressing room, which I cant see him doing.
(And for what it's worth, sacking Ole to bring in Allegri is the exact sort of nonsensical opinion I'm talking about!)

I wonder if they did intend to give Solskjaer a bit longer - not so much a "free hit" this season but without quite the same pressure to get CL football. Even if that's the case, I reckon they will eventually lack the courage of that conviction and, rightly or wrongly, pull the trigger if he doesn't make it this year.
A lot of conjecture there, I know, but most things since Ferguson, in terms of hiring and firing, seem to have been pretty reactive - "firefighting" rather than sticking with a plan - so this wouldn't surprise me.

Howe deserved the benefit of the doubt as he had been at the club for years and done a job so good he shouldn’t even be sacked if they get relegated.
Ole has no such managerial credit to fall back upon. I’m not even saying he should be sacked now unless Poch says ‘hire me tomorrow or never’.
But Ole is doing more bad than good and people have a genuine right to be worried. Does that offend you?

It’s not flawed at all.
It’s an example of a club who had a terrible run but it didn’t mean that the answer was to sack the manager.
It’s possible to go on a bad run and still be a good manager for the club.
Let me know if the penny ever drops because with your current braindead contributions I won’t be wasting anymore time on you.
Our club really doesn’t need fans like you.
It’s not flawed at all.
It’s an example of a club who had a terrible run but it didn’t mean that the answer was to sack the manager.

Well done, you gave an example of when a manager wasn’t sacked. I can give you examples of when a manager was sacked and the club went on to do better.
Your argument is more flawed than an Ole plan B

Because I’m demonstrating that taking one part of a season and using that to determine whether a manager should keep his job is flawed.
I’m comparing the two individuals or the situations - just the idea that half a season is a long enough period of time to come to the conclusion that a manager should be sacked.

bloodred, the discussion moved on into a more general point I was making. Like I said before I’m indifferent about his sacking.
If a better interim was available and then a more suitable candidate in the summer could be appointed I wouldn’t actually be that upset with the club for doing so - especially if the interim gets CL football, which would justify the decision.
But for now I’m not that fussed. We’ll just have to see out another shiiiiiitty season of boring football and hope the next man in the summer can change things.
*Enter Max Allegri*
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough, I think I'm pretty much in agreement with you there although I dont really see the need for an interim unless Ole loses the dressing room, which I cant see him doing.
(And for what it's worth, sacking Ole to bring in Allegri is the exact sort of nonsensical opinion I'm talking about!)

Clockwork, yep that’s likely the case. It’s unacceptable for a club the size of United to keep missing out on the CL. My only hope is that eventually the owners will see just how big an impact Woodward is having on this being so common and fack him off. But I won’t hold my breath.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wonder if they did intend to give Solskjaer a bit longer - not so much a "free hit" this season but without quite the same pressure to get CL football.

Robb, go to a game and take your Ole Out banner with you.
At least the decent fans will then know who needs a pasting.

Robb, you’re pathetic. I tried to write a reasoned post to you and you behave like a facking child.
I didn’t compare Howe to Ole you priick.
Let’s hope you fack off from the forum again - you add nothing to this place.

You did actually compare Ole to Howe. No need to get so abusive! If you can’t handle forum chat then maybe you should leave
Just saying mate 🤷♂️

I didn’t compare them.
Are you really that facking stupid that you need it explained?

But your argument is flawed

Well done, you gave an example of when a manager wasn’t sacked. I can give you examples of when a manager was sacked and the club went on to do better.
Your argument is more flawed than an Ole plan B

No need to cry because I have such a better life than you.
Just try to learn from me and see if you can save your life from abject failure.
Good luck with that.
