A conundrum to me, I still think that their is a good player there, but he should start showing himself better over the next 6 months,if he doesn't, Frank should/will get rid if.

AC is our best CB, to my mind. Just needed a manager that believes in him (Frank is certainly the man for that) and a suitable complementry partner.
Current management rate him highly, has a future at the club.

Frank in 6 months has shown his shrewdness in managing and judging which players respond better to the treatment and which players respond better to the stick treatment.

Still in the infancy of his managerial career and displaying traits of an elite manager..doing a stonking job, all things considered.

Frank is determined not to make the same errors that the previous managers did by alienating standout young talent, which results in them leaving the club and becoming elite elsewhere (De Bruyne...the most pertinent example).

Its amazing how all fans have different opinions.
I have read all yours and mine is this.
I think he is the worst CB we have. I think he is weak in a challenge, in the air and on the floor.
I think he's concentration is appalling.
I really do not think he gives any confidence to other defenders.
I really hope Lampard does not continue with him, not sure why Lampard has started to play him.
I feel we really need to cash in and we can get him sold and use the money on an experienced CB.
As I said we all have our opinions

Must be great that all the experts in here know far more about our players than Frank who has played and trained with him. Give frank a ring im sure hell like the input.

I'm very much in the pro-Christensen camp. Can't get the player he was in the Bundesliga out of my mind. Also telling for me that his decline in form coincided with one high profile mistake (vs. Barca in 2018), makes me think a big part of his problem is psychological.

I agree with this - but my conclusion may still differ to yours. Yes, he does seem more comfortable in possession than any of our other defenders. A very cultured centre back on the ball. But the fact that he has a weak mentality makes me think he will never entirely overcome his failings.

Remember when Lampard played Lamptey against Arsenal recently - he knew he had the ability, but he specifically asked Morris if he thought Lamptey had the mentality to handle a big game like this. The answer was an unequivocal yes. It’s not just the kid’s ability - but his mental strength. I wonder if Morris would say the same thing about Christensen - does he have the mentality for the big occasion? I personally think not.

He has strengths and weaknesses, but i fear his weaknesses are on the physical and personality side phase. I watched the highlights and he was still getting physcically beaten up on the set plays. I accept burnley probabbly do that to every team, but the problem is AC is a common denominantyor in this regard.

He should not be written off yet, he is still young and i think the development path of young CBs is a little more volatile to that of young players in other positions, but if you twisted my arm for a view, i am afraid it would be a pessimistic one.

You can't afford to have a mentally fragile player in any position tbh, but at CB it feels somehoe worse

After his Monchengladbach loan he was rated so highly, i've never seen a player that looks like he should be rated highly in him.

The Danish Lindelof.

Christensen hasn't got the mentality for the big occasion? BS.

Stepping out of his comfort zone to embark on loan abroad takes
You don't go from academy football straight to top-level senior football and become an established key player immediately at 18...without having the mentality required.

Furthermore...

Had the mentality to deal with Lewandowski thrice at age 19/20 (eagerly anticipating their next meeting in Feb)
Had the mentality to put in outstanding displays against Juventus In the CL, in his first year of senior football.
More than held his own against Messi and co. on numerous occasions.
Put in man of the match displays against City, both for Gladbach & Chelsea.
Had the mentality to help guide that Gladbach side to their first semi-final for yonks (lost out on pens).
Stifled and had the measure of one of the top strikers in Kane first time of asking at Wembley and again in Carabao.
Had the mentality to get the better of Arsenals' strikerforce of Aubameyang & Lacazette In Europa final last season.
Just to name a few.

But no no...hasn't proven himself to have the mentality for the big occasions and one cameo sub appearance (which is a ridiculously small sample size) proves that Lamptey has unequivocally got the mentality. Warped logic.

Held in high regard by coaches for his commitment, attitude and qualities particularly reading of the game and on the ball.

A minor point but he was already abroad, he moved closer to home with his loan.

The thing is, or so the saying goes, when you are young, and not much is expected of you (also in a smaller team) their is less pressure and you have no fear.

Citing examples from atleast 2/3 years ago, especially at gladbach, have no relevance to this conversation.
He does look shaky mentally and physically, that is not a myth people have made up, its based on evidence since that barca game.

Lamptey I cannot comment on as I have not seen him enough.
