Nice to see the re-introduction of the deliberate mistakes. I spotted them, do I get a prize. Thought the South stand was brilliant today. They have been rather subdued for most of the season. When it's us vs the EFL we all pull together.

It was Clarke and Wisdom 3R, otherwise jolly good show.

Good stuff Ramdini.

Looking at the fixtures hopefully we can start building some momentum for a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge April:

West Brom, Brentford, Dirties, FA Cup semi final and a couple of mid table teams too.

I wonder if Wisdom’s selection was Cocu seeing if he thinks we can manage without a new centre half in the transfer window and have Davies and Wisdom covering that spot between them. If so that’s a change from the plan because Cocu said we were very much in need of someone in that position and also a wide right player. It would worry me because I think we very much need to strengthen and because of the implication for our financial situation.

In the match I thought Rooney looked well off the pace for much of the game, better later on though. Wisdom made one bad mistake which nearly let them in but otherwise looked at home in that position. I thought Knight stood out again and that Lowe by and large handled Bowen very well. Waghorn also led the line pretty well and retained possession better than is often the case. Lawrence.....poor for me today though I thought his effort was decent. His booking wasn’t petulant so much as a cynical way of stopping a Hull attack from developing.

I thought this too on seeing the selection. If we're not going to get central defence cover we'd certainly need RB cover ( unless Anya is going to be doing this once he returns from injury 😆 ) I have doubts we'll be getting the Croat in , partly due to Leicester taking an age to find a CB and also the investment delays. I also think realistically we need to be looking at perm signings ( if possible ) so that we have one reasonably decent player in each position. With Clarke due back end of season we require a left footed CB. Are any of the defenders we've been linked with left footed?

We definitely need someone of quality to whip in crosses / dribble , question of who is available in our price range? And what is our price range?

Thanks for the great report Ramdini

Good report Ramdini.

I thought it was solid yesterday rather than spectacular. We nullified them after all the talk of their prolific goal scorers which was good. Rooney looked keen but slightly off the pace (?) but we cannot expect him to be 10/10 every match. Also he was playing in a more forward position and was being marked by 3 Hull players.

Really pleased for Clarke as he has come in without fanfare or fuss and goes about his job in a quiet, understated way. Solid not spectacular.

Thanks for pointing out the error Scouse. For posterity's sake I have corrected the mistake.

Lawrence took one for the team in his booking.

He’s a long way from getting the crowd on his side. If he makes an error it’s not just a moan he gets full on abuse and his name is greeted also by moans before kick off.

It’s unfortunate but to my mind he didn’t do a lot wrong yesterday.
People are calling for Sibley but Sibley is not a winger and neither is Lawrence but of the two I’d stick with Lawrence out wide.
If it’s the number ten role then that is currently occupied by Rooney so neither Tom nor Sibley are going to feature there while he stays fit.

If Cocu signs a winger then Lawrence will make way as Knight and Holmes won’t be dropped now.

It’s the beauty of having Rooney in the side. Teams are terrified of him and doubling up on him. You only had to see Jackson Irvine reaction to Wazza nutmegging him to how people feel playing against him. Rooney ended his career in one move 😂

We can sign anyone, but Lawrence won't get dropped, I wonder where he keeps the photos?

Des I don't think Anya will be playing right back anytime soon, he gets injured not playing so God knows what would happen if he put on his boots. What a terrible waste of money that man is.

Good report Ramdini as usual. I actually thought Waghorn played well and controlled the ball much better. Knight was terrific and I hope Prem clubs aren't looking. He is becoming my favourite player, so it is certain he will leave.

yes having seen the highlights Rooney actually made a bigger impact than I could see from the stand. And it was not his fault that the chances he created for his youngsters were often wasted. from the North stand I couldn't see those.

A few Hollywood passes went astray from him early doors. Lawrence needs a goal or 2, he got an assist yesterday, but Clarke summed it up that it’s nice to actually score from a corner, I think deliveries from them have generally been poor this season.

posted on 19/1/20

Lawrence played one corner to the near post, one to the far post, one to the centre (from which we scored) and one short one. Nice to some mixing so the opposition defence doesn't have an easy time.

It’s an epidemic in football these days, players are more interested in gaining some fabled advantage by placing the ball as far out of the D in the corner as possible, only to hit the first man or cross it straight into the keepers hands.

posted on 19/1/20

I actually think the delivery from corners has been far better this season. Not all but the great majority have been landing where they should. Also compared to early season our defending of set pieces has improved greatly.

Curtis Davies has missed a couple of sitters from corners to be fair

Quite agree Tommo. As football pitches are not a standard width judging the length of corner kicks has always been a hit and miss affair both literally and metaphorically. FIFA should make a rule that all corners are to be played with at least half the ball inside the corner segment.

posted on 19/1/20

I’d make the segment bigger, say a yard, and then say the ball needs to be completely inside it. If a player takes the mickey and tries to have the ball overhanging the line then the ref changes it to a goal kick. That’ll learn them.

posted on 19/1/20

Actually it’s already supposed to be a yard! Looks smaller than that. I’ll get me coat.

Alexander-Arnold absolutely taking the pee today with a first half corner, but why?

Anyone would think the penalty spot is 10 yards away.

*100 yards away

posted on 20/1/20

The penalty spot is 10 yards away from something at a radius of 10 yards from the spot. Similarly it is 100 yards away from something at a radius of 100 yards.

Think nothing of it Vidal. You obviously miss the point, but that is hardly surprising, it's to do with Einstein.
